Famitsu has provided the latest look at the boxed charts in Japan, and it's another resounding success for Mario Kart World, with the Switch 2 launch title selling another 38,026 copies.
Borderlands 4 made its debut, with the PS5 version coming in at number 2 after selling 13,029 copies. A decent start, to be sure, but Mario Kart World's commanding lead is going to take some beating.
Elsewhere, the Switch version of Minecraft has surpassed 4 million copies sold after shifting another 5,539 last week. The game is consistently featured in the top ten, and it's just a remarkable success considering its age.
Here's a closer look at this week's top 10:
Looking at the hardware, the Switch 2 comes out on top once again with another 44,278 units sold. This has also now nudged the console over the 2 million mark, selling double the lifetime sales of the PS5 Digital Edition already.
The three Switch SKUs total 19,049 units sold, while the three PS5 SKUs total 21,703. A win for the PS5 this week then, but if you add both figures together, it still doesn't quite match what the Switch 2 managed.
Here's the rundown of this week's hardware chart:
What do you make of this week's charts? Let us know down below.

There are still people who buy a PS4?! Don't get me wrong, it's a Triple A-system, i'm Just amazed.
The next big release will be Pokemon Legends Z-A. Mario Kart and Donkey are still holding up well.
@TomSupreme At this point, I'm more surprised that there are still people in Japan buying Xbox systems. No shade, I love my series X, but Japan seems to feel differently about Xbox.
Love to hear that Switch 2 sold 2 millions in Japan alone (and even more so since despite that the Switch is still selling well)!
Also happy to see Mario Kart World in 1st and selling that much, Borderlands 4 in 2nd (curious to see how much the Switch 2 version will sell), Bananza in 3rd, the Switch version of Grand Bazaar in 4th (but of course people could later upgrade to the Switch 2 version), Hinokami Chronicles 2 in 5th, Everybody's Golf in 6th, Delta in 8th, 8 Deluxe in 9th and Super Robot Wars Y in 10th!
PS5 on number 3 this week with 10K unit sold.
Good to see that. 😊
Congratulations on crossing the 2 mil mark, Switch 2! Also nice to see an anime game (Demon Slayer) selling well also 😃.
good milestone for switch 2! i wish dk bananza would sell more, what a masterpiece. itll be fun seeing z-a, air riders, and hyrule warriors compete with each other!
Nintendo has definitely done an incredible job making sure there are plenty of consoles in stores for people to pick up when they are ready!
Judging by its steady sales, Donkey Kong Bananza seems to have settled into the position of a staple title that will keep selling as the Switch 2 becomes more widespread. I'm glad — it's a masterpiece that deserves to be in the hands of many people.
@MTMike87
"BS! It's a sign its fail of a system is collecting dust in shelves. Wii U 2.0 NINTENDOOMED!"
-some random on the internet, probably.
In all seriousness, I agree with that notion, I know that by the time I'm ready to get one it will be available. I wish I could say the same about Mario Kart World, I haven't seen a single copy in stores in my city since launch.
To be honest, I would've thought it would happen a little quicker. Still impressive, could catch PS5 in Japan in less than a year if sales remain steady.
Clear sign that Nintendo is doing everything right again! Be good to your customers and fans = your console and games will keep selling like hotcakes, Sony and Microsoft should be taking notes!
2 million. Wowee Japan
@Anti-Matter I’m so happy for you.
the next 3 months is pack with good games for switch 2.
Can't you guys plot a graph of the weekly system sales and e.g. DK sales so it is possible to see the trend over time?
@ShieldHero as an anime fan I second this!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Minecraft are both immortal on the Switch Japanese chart now. Literally no games could top both anymore. The only way any games could top them is if Nintendo discontinued the Switch systems and Switch games. Nice that the PS5 still outsell the Switch 1 on the chart but once everyone got tired of Metal Gear Solid Delta, them numbers will dropped again. Also I had a feeling no one is buying the Switch 2 for the game key card garbage, everyone is buying the Switch 2 to make their Switch 1 games run better or to just play Nintendo's first and second party titles. That's what I would do at the moment. No way am I touching game key card no matter what excuses they'll make up.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still fighting. I make the prediction that it’ll be regarded as the best MK entry ever, no superfluous open world, just 96 narrow tracks demanding great drifting skills. And the online scene will still be vivid in 10 years!
Very cool the Switch 2 is moving. I'm just ready for Metroid Prime 4 and a bunch of other games while I play my NS1 backlog on it.
I've already put more time into my Switch 2 than I have my Switch 1 prob since TOTK came out. Switch 2 has taken over as my primary system now. I'm actually motivated to buy and play 3rd party games on Nintendo hardware again
Stuff like this is good to see.
Especially when the vocal people online won't stop trying to start a riot over petty stuff like the virtual boy shell being $100. Is that too much for virtual boy. Yes honestly. Even with 14 games I wouldn't pay $10 for any of them.
But frankly I don't care. If you just want to try it get the cardboard virtualboy or get a labor on clearance.
I do not understand the modern gamer mentality that something being expensive is a reason to be upset even if said thing isn't even something they want.
But anyway seeing strong sales means so matter how pervasive those people are it doesn't matter since actual customers are still buying.
It’s a disaster the Switch 2
@TomSupreme It's an affordable blu-ray player. The fact you can play games on it is a bonus.
@nebradska Alot of that could be foreigners living in Japan.
Absolute doomage
Wait until the big hitters start releasing those figures will sky rocket.
@ShieldHero Very nice to see, I suppose the film is helping it shift some numbers as well. Now where is the Shield Hero Rpg it deserves, would rather that over the usual SAO ones we get.
Finally received mine today. Very exited on trying out both MK and DK, but also to continue my Silksong playthrough here after transferring.
I think that after Silksong I'll be back and forth between DK and Hades 2 and eventually Ghost of Yotei.
So I have plenty to remain occupied, but still a little disappointed with the latest direct and upcoming lineup tbh.
@TomSupreme
My theory is that this is a reporting glitch. It would be very easy for 13 out of twenty thousand data entries for "Playstation" to have been marked in error. I don't know how this list is generated. It is almost impossible for any tabulation to be 100.00000% accurate. That's why politicians demand recounts, and the counts are always different the 2nd time around.
@UltimateOtaku91
Yes I expect the system will continue to sell well as the next main line entries in Mario 2D/3D, Smash, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Pokemon come out hopefully within 18 months, especially if they are not cross platform. However, I expect they will have a lesser Switch 1 edition for most 1st party titles at least to 2027, and maybe longer. I don't see OLED Switch 1 being discontinued until there is an OLED Switch 2.
Switch 2 peak!!
pls dont bully me
Well done switch 2 for 2 million!
I wonder if Nintendo will do a lite or oled version at some point? I’d settle just for a better battery like the OG switch got.
I say, can someone tell me what SKU stands for please? Asking for a friend, namely, myself.
@Alpha008 a quick google search says it stands for Stock Keeping Unit.
@Alpha008 Stock Keeping Unit. Each product, or variation of a product, has a different SKU, to differentiate between them. For example, the Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED would all have different SKUs.
Lol @ the 13 people buying PS4s 😂
B-b-but Reddit said Switch 2 was doomed and that’s where I get all my opinions and marching orders 😖😖😖
Hoping it slows down dramatically so that Nintendo has to rethink certain policies.
I'm very sad and angry with how they're doing things lately. Every time a first party does incredibly well, greed and arrogance takes over.
Friendly reminder these sales numbers include the $330 model as well.
Switch 2 sales have screeched to a halt globally
@Aeralto ^^^ See above me...must be gospel.
how longer Switch took to reach 2 milions consoles sold in japan?
Excellent, I don't think I'll be part of the next million as I'd like to get a switch 2 oled version.
@Giancarlothomaz it took them 6 months to sell 1.95m Switch units in Japan. The Xbox? errrrr..... PS5? Two years.
DK is honestly a really cool game. I beat it at launch and have since been going back in bits and pieces to 100% it, and it's just super creative and really neat. I think I appreciate it more every time I take a little break and go back to it.
@Max_the_German I take your point, but the online lag in MK8 on Switch 1 is absolutely horrendous. Every red shell seemingly has no effect on the person in front of you due to the delay. It ruins the online experience. But Mario Kart World has flawless online, where every hit counts and you can actually overtake people in real time.
Switch 2 continues to sell very well, perplexing Internet doom warriors everywhere.
As much as I'd like to get a Switch 2, something has to be said about the prices, especially in Canada...
The core console is $649.99 + tax, the Mario Kart bundle is $699.99. Games are anywhere from $99.99 + tax for games like Donkey Kong Bananza and the even more perplexing and even disgusting thing is Switch 2 versions of Switch 1 games like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party Jamboree, and more are a whopping $114.99 + tax! Like WTF?! As much as I want Mario Kart World, I'll just spend $93.49 + tax on Sonic Racing CrossWorlds rather than $735.00 for the Switch 2/MKW bundle.
Won't be getting one until late 2026. If not 2027. This may be the first cycle ever I go Playstation. I'm waiting on the new elder scrolls and new gta which most likely will not be on switch 2.
Now that im an adult, there are very few games I see myself playing on here.
Although I do admit, the new yoshi does look charming.
