Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be coming to the Switch as a bundle, launching on 2nd October 2025.
Nintendo is also launching new Mario Galaxy-themed amiibo alongside a physical storybook product from the game.
Fans have been itching to get Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Switch for years since its omission from Super Mario 3D All-Stars back in 2020, so it's lovely to see this one finally confirmed.
It's also been confirmed that both titles will be enhanced for the Switch 2, with resolution up to 4K in docked mode and 1080p in handheld mode.

It's also been confirmed that both games will be available as separate purchases on the Switch eShop.
Two of the very best Mario games are making a comeback. Will you be grabbing these? Let us know with a comment.

Awwwwwwwww yeeaaahhhhhhhh!
Still a bit annoying that Galaxy 2 didn't come together on the previous bundle.
The fine print also mentions that they're available separately on the e-shop. Good, because I already have SMG1 on Switch.
I'm glad that we're finally getting Galaxy 2 on Switch!
I already have Galaxy 1! I'll take Galaxy 2 all day every day! One of my fav games of all time!
@tourjeff got us to buy it twice.
I’m a graphics whore so is this 4k 60fps on switch 2?
No physical copie?
nice, but where's is the new 3D Mario??
come on...it's been 8 years.
Of course the gluttons get the Galaxies and us 3D Land fans get NOTHING
AGAIN
@Cyrax77 EU direct showed a game case for S1, confirming physical copy.
@Pipulitoch I didn’t expect a new game but I thought maybe more than a port. Galaxy more like the Metroid prime remastered version. But that would take work. This was essentially a port that they get to sell you a book for. You don’t need to take business in uni. Just follow Nintendo long enough and you can figure this all out in your daily life.
@N00BiSH love 3d land. Hope when it gets ported it gets more respect than this quick and dirty release.
I lost my s#*t when I saw this I can't wait and the new Yoshi game looks so cute can't wait for that one too 💙💙💙💚💚💚
@sixrings dude, what?
@Qwiff But will this be an improved version from the All Stars Collection? It looked super sharp.
@Pipulitoch please remaster games not port games. Please understand.
@sixrings LOL Who said anything about that?
Are you ok?
@sixrings that's your answer to this one below?
"nice, but where's is the new 3D Mario??
come on...it's been 8 years."
Do you see dead people? Do you have imaginary friends?
LOL
@Pipulitoch I’m not ok with full priced rereleases when evil companies like activision or ea manages to remaster their games for the same prices.
Removed - unconstructive
@tourjeff Exactly! I'm glad that I'm not the only one disappointed with Super Mario 3D Some-Stars, even though I was very happy with Super Mario Sunshine in 16:9 aspect ratio. Super Mario 64 in 4:3 is also disappointing, I don't mind the pop-in in a 1996 game.
Imagine any other publisher releasing this separately now and with these prices, the backlash!
@N00BiSH If you are able to, I recommend you to play Super Mario 3D Land on 3DS. No other version or emulation can give you the stereoscopic 3D it was designed for.
I'll likely sell my copy of 3D All Stars and grab this since I don't care much for 64 or Sunshine... I know, hot take.
@Banjo- I have that. I just wanna see it rereleased with the other 3D Marios.
@VenomUK I'd be nice if we could at least use the same save file for both Super Mario Galaxy 1 releases on the same console, but it's Nintendo, so who knows.
Let's goooo!!!!! Galaxy 2 was the #1 game I was hoping for.
I'll probably go with Mario Galaxy 2 digital first, Then, if I can find the physical bundle for a good price, I'll get it.
I expected them so surprise us with Galaxy 3...
But nope...no new 3D Mario...
Will def buy, but really feel burnt due to All Stars. Will love every minute, but will always feel a little bitter
Little shocking there is no switch 2 edition
I hope it's not $70.
This is cool but I already have Mario 3D all stars so I will probably just get galaxy 2 on the e shop.
Depending on the price, I'll get Galaxy 2. But I'm annoyed it's a bundle and only for Switch 1. Mouse mode for collecting the star bits would've been great.
That is actually nice.
getting digitally.
@thenikdavies Pretty sure the video said you can get it individually.
It is 40 dollars individually.
Sounds good! I'm glad that everyone who wants to play Galaxy 2 but don't have a Wii will be able to do so.
@jwfurness Galaxy was the only game worth getting All Stars, since it's half a port unlike the other two are just pure emulation.
I like how they were presenting this as if Mario Galaxy wasn't already available before XD
Great to finally see SMG2 come to the system though and it seems like this time they won't be victim to inane release strategies 😅
Nice! I regretted not buying all stars when it had its limited window but with this and 64 and sunshine being available on NSO I can have access to all of them on Switch 2!
I remember being a kid and deciding I didn't want these games because they didn't look like Mario Sunshine. I've since played rereleases of both and unfortunately I've still got to agree with mini me. Aside from 3D Land, linear 3D Marios are just not my thing.
@anoyonmus My wording was weird, what I meant is that, physically I'm annoyed it's a bundle. I knew it was available separately digitally.
I want to get Galaxy 2 physically, but I don't want to get Galaxy 1 again. Unless it was a Switch 2 version, then I wouldn't have minded.
Just seen on the e shop. Nearly £60 digitally or £34 each. That feels a lot. Balls.
This direct hit my wallet hard!
Gonna be buying a lot of Switch stuff!
But... what about 3D All-Stars lol. what the heck Nintendo. They really want us to forget it ever existed, don't they?
Hoping Switch 2 visuals come later like the Amiibo are.
@fenlix I just checked on the UK eShop. Separately, each game costs £33.99. The bundle is £58.99.
Which is ludicrous but I'll pay it because I'm an idiot.
$40 each. Yikes.
Not yahoo. Not lovely to see this one finally confirmed. It should have been on the 3D All-Stars that we already paid for. Not purchasing.
Isn’t that a weird decision - not at least uprezzing the games to look great on Switch 2 when they just based the new movie on them? I found myself thinking “hm, that looks a bit jagged, the cutscenes have an untidy look to them too”, only later realized it’s a Switch 1 release. Bummer.
@sixrings
Yes there game page for galaxy 2 says there will be a free update for 4k etc on switch 2 😀
Price is ridiculous... fun!
Price is incredibly greedy, indeed, assuming this is "translated" emulation (as explained on the DF videos) like Super Mario Galaxy 1 on Switch.
And owners of super mario 3d collection get galaxy 1 for free...? Like Doom+doom 2 collection. Well i don't think so
40 dollars for Galaxy billions must emulate
God, I just can't express how I feel about having SMG2 for new hardware to be beautifully displayed on modern screens. Also, I just can express how I feel about the ridiculous pricing Nintendo chose to apply to these games. Either bundled or individually, that's just absurd. I bought the 3D All stars collection and I admit I felt relief when I saw the fine print saying the games will be available separately as digital downloads but my happiness began to dwindle when i learned EACH game will cost 40 dollars. Metroid Prime Remastered, which was wonderfully remastered and became much more beautiful than the original release cost 40, too. This one seems to be the same as the Wii versions, just adapted to new hardware. Even 70 for the bundle seems incredibly absurd, unfortunately
already have both. was hoping for new content besides some pages so thats a no
@sixrings 4k yes, according to Nintendo page.
@N00BiSH dude, I have been so hoping they were gonna release 3D Land for the Switch with the 40th. Love that game
Sweet! I always did love these games. Excited to take them on the go! Although, I wonder how they are going to get you to collect Star Bits. It's been a while since I played Super Mario 3D All-Stars, so I forget how they retooled that mechanic.
Fiiiiiiiinally. I've actually never played these. But I won't buy at $70. If Nintendo doesn't bring prices back down to earth, I'll be prioritizing 3rd party games.
looks like they're being sold individually for 40, pretty pricey
@N00BiSH 3D Land turns 15 in 2026, so it could easily be rereleased then…
@EarthboundBenjy No freaking duh. With hindsight, 3D All-Stars really was pointless in the long run.
£20 on WiiU, £34 on Switch. I have a word for Nintendo about this, but I'll keep it to myself.
They should do it as DLC for All-Stars for £20 to make up for all this
@AstroTheGamosian With the joy-con or touching the screen in handheld mode. I think there is a way to get them with the pro controller. None of them feels as intuitive as the Wii Remote.
@DominionGamma : There'd be no need for it, given that there wouldn't be any difference in assets or the ROMs used (they look like glorified ROM dumps, after all). All they would have to do is increase the resolution and/or FPS upon bootup when the software detects which console the games are being played on.
Just to be clear I understand. If you buy this new collection, or Galaxy 1 or 2 individually, there is a Switch 2 patch to run at 4K on TV. As per the Nintendo website.
There is no Switch 2 patch for Mario All Stars, so the ONLY way to play Galaxy 1 at 4k is to buy it AGAIN here?
Or have I got that wrong? Slimy if true...
Nintendo are weird with how they do these anniversary releases. Should have just included Galaxy 2 in the original pack.
I hope they confirm that the existing Super Mario Galaxy 1 version is the same as this and will also get any resolution/performance boost that buying the new two-pack would. It certainly seems that way based on them selling the games individually, but I want to be sure.
@Olliemar28
“It doesn't appear that this release will be enhanced for Switch 2 in any way, but Nintendo is also launching new Mario Galaxy-themed amiibo alongside a physical storybook product from the game.”
This paragraph could do with a trim!
@Maxz Thanks - busy busy!
$70 guys. For 15+ year old games. I really hope owning the libs was worth it.
@EarthboundBenjy Mario never had a 35th Anniversary. There was no Super Mario Bros. 35 and there certainly was no 3D All-Stars.
Happy this is here. I have this on Wii. Bought again as virtual console on Wii u on sale for £8.99 each title normally £17.99. Now nintendo is selling this for £33.99 both for ££58.99.
This is greedy and I know most Mario fans will still buy this. I know I will
Why isn't this just being added to all stars? Would have been nice for Nintendo to make that available again, but I'm guessing they are trying to make that 'special' by not having it be available...
At least Galaxy 2 is on Switch now, but the collection is $70, and each game is $40.
@Olliemar28 Possibly just my limited reading comprehension but doesn't this subheader:
"And they're 'Enhanced for Switch 2'"
mean the opposite of this 2nd paragraph sentence:
"It doesn't appear that this release will be enhanced for Switch 2 in any way,"
I'm trying to keep up, I know you're busy busy, but it kinda matters as we have a Switch 2, and both games on Wii if I wanna pop them in the Ole Wii U which we still use. I'd pay for 4k HDR though. 😁
Awesome you can purchase separately as well! Considering many of us already bought 3D All Stars it would be kinda lame to have to double dip (tho I might anyway to have the collection on kart:)
@DennyCrane if you bought them when they first released, they were discounted big. £7.99.
@SaltySpitoon957 oof maybe I won’t be double dipping after all
So i wonder, is the original galaxy improved at all since the other release or is it the same deal outside of a resolution bump.
@fenlix oh do I have news for you…
(it’s $70 for the bundle and $40 per game individually)
Also, at least according to Nintendo’s Instagram page, these rereleases have some additional new content added - namely new Storybook stuff and an Assist mode.
I also noticed a lot of the UI has switched over to the new Mario font, which wasn’t the case in 3D All-Stars.
Even so these are sooo overpriced
Somehow missed the bit in the video where it said you could buy them separately. Was all set for a b**** and moan about having to rebuy Galaxy 1. All in for Galaxy 2.
I'll get galaxy 2 when it comes out. I already have 3d all-stars
@electrolite77 if you don’t rebuy 1 will 1 be upgraded to 4k?
@sixrings
Odd question
It really is way too easy for Nintendo to make money fly out of my wallet.
These are two of the best games ever made though IMO, so I'm not complaining at all!
This was the only "new" reveal worth getting in the direct and it'll play on Switch1 anyway. Gutted over this direct, other than Metroid I think first party offerings are looking sparse still.
That’s really nice. Loved these games back in the day. I will be grabbing these!
I guess Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine are pulled out of the package to sell people on NSO+EP subscriptions. Regardless, I'm still getting this game.
4K for Switch 2 is all well and good, but what about mouse mode for Switch 2? I get that they’re Wii games so it’s supposed to be motion but Galaxy games use pointer which wasn’t emulated the best on Switch. Mouse mode would make this the best way to play these games imo
This price is absurd! Doesn't help to get physical I have to buy both when I have Mario Galaxy on the 3D All-Stars, so now I need to buy it again just to get Mario Galaxy 2 on a physical cartridge, and at a ridiculously overpriced package!
First with the Game Key Cards, now this? JFC Nintendo, you're really starting to push me away from console gaming completely with this garbage. This should be no more than $50!
Um... Nope.
I already have the Wii version, both of them.
And both of them are not the best 3D Mario games in my opinions on after I played the games.
It was so hard, the multiple lives I have accumulated before will always back to 5 lives everytime I load the games, so Nope from me.
@Markatron84 which probably means £50 on Amazon or in Argos.
Called it.
That price though......
@1UP_MARIO Yeah I remember that, I missed out as was still using my discs then decided to get them anyway....stupid on my behalf. I actually think they were £17.99 too not £20
Great news!! Have the Wii versions & the 3D all stars on Switch. Will get this for the collection to play on Switch 2. Can't wait to play through Galaxy 2.
@Banjo- Yeah, the Wii Remote was very intuitive when it came to that. It'd be nice if Nintendo could make a Wii Remote-like accessory for the Switch and Switch 2, although the IR sensors in the Joy-Cons could theoretically do the job.
Again, so glad these games are finally both on Switch (and apparently here to stay unlike 3D All-Stars) - will definitely try to get the physical version, even better if my usual retailer will have it and so discounted, too!
@sixrings Yep!
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/super-mario-galaxy-plus-super-mario-galaxy-2-switch/#enhancements
Also, 120 fps for Switch 2 version.
While I'm very, VERY happy about this announcement - more people need to experience the magic of both Super Mario Galaxy titles - this is a skip for me. Both my Wii copies work fine, and I can live without the HD coat of paint. Though this is a no-brainer should my Wii U kick the bucket.
Mario galaxy 3 potentially next year then? Fingers crossed 🤞
Sad to not see Super Mario 3D Land.
Good news if you already have All Stars then you can just get Galaxy 2 separate
@Ultimapunch Blaming Nintendo’s ridiculous pricing on “owning the libs” is next level absurdity.
Why couldn't they have the enhancements on a physical edition...
@DominionGamma Really no need to. Those games are old and run fine on the Tegra X1. The Switch 2 is BC with Switch 1 games. So just make a Switch 1 version and everyone can play and enjoy it.
This actually happened a lot in the early PS2 era. 2D PS releases post 2000 usually didn't get a PS2 version. Just a PS1 version. Which could be played on PS2.
They didn't have to make us buy Galaxy 2 again... Ugly, ugly move. As if it wasn't expensive enough...
I was fearing a Switch 2 edition of 3D All-Stars with Galaxy 2 included. It's worse. If you want this physically you have to buy one game you already have.
@Cyrax77 They literally showed the physical copy in a photo!
@Arawn93 I have 3D All-Stars physically and yet I'm still buying the physical bundle, because it's physical!
I'm so happy we finally have a modern port of Super Mario Galaxy 2!
I still need to play the 1st one, that was in the 3D All-Stars collection.
@Pipulitoch What a TWEEST!
@Chron At 1080p it supports 120 fps; 4k is 60fps. Now I want to see confirmation somewhere of it will actually support HDR
@Anti-Matter It’s not hard to refill your lives supply by replaying earlier levels. Most Marios are designed that way, and further on in the game there are plenty of 1-ups to get again—over and over— in the hub.
@Misima What makes you think that the physical version won't have the Switch 2 enhancements?
@Antraxx777
But I don't like when all my hard work to collect multiple lives for Mario Galaxy get wasted after I Load my Save data and all my multiple lives back to 4 or 5. That's really turned me off.
The other platformer Mario games you can keep your multiple lives but not in Mario Galaxy games.
@Atariboy There have been other releases that are just the Switch version and then you have to download the update and it goes on your internal memory.
@Cyrax77 It appears to only be physical for Switch 1, but you can still upgrade it to the Switch 2 version.
@Misima I imagine it will work like the Switch 2 enhanced physical releases of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, with the Switch 2 enhancements on the cartridge while still being Switch 1 compatible.
While the price is gross, I'll probably pick these up if the game works well with the Joy Con 2's. I never had a Wii, so never played SMG or G2.
@sixrings No, Mario Galaxy of “Mario 3D All Stars” is a completely different release, and went through a separate round of testing and implementation.
@cylemmulo New UI and Storybook scenes, as well as new Assist mode.
More lame nostalgia grabs.
So, this being a first-party Switch 1 game, that means we should be able to use one of those (still available) Switch Game Vouchers on it, right?
Can they just do this for the legend of zelda games please for the love of the god, just give us OoT and Majoras mask already and please Nintendo, please, put the original games and the 3DS remasters/updates on the same cart so all the respective fans of these games can play it how want to and OWN IT!!
@Anti-Matter lives management is a staple of most platformers.
A quick hop back to an easier level to farm some lives is very much the routine.
What the heck is “up to” 4k resolution. It should be locked 4k docked if all they’re doing is porting it.
@electrolite77 if you don’t rebuy 1 will your 35th all stars pack versions of galaxy 1 be upgraded?
But I’m pretty sure you knew what I was asking.
@sixrings
Right. I wouldn’t have thought so. This is probably a separate thing?
Hoping the Switch 2 enhancement for Galaxy is featured in an update for owners of the physical game.
Switch 2 owners will have to download an update to run their physical copy AT ALL, so what's the point =(
@sixrings I guess it depends what system one is playing on? S1 players won't get 4K, yet S2 players can, so I guess that's what "up to 4K" is referring to? 🤔
@sixrings In 1080p the game can run at 120 fps, for Switch 2
@DonierGunad I could see 3DS games being added to work with the Virtuaboy accessory 🤔
@VenomUK
Thinking the same!
@DragonbornRito if Nintendo was raising their prices in a vacuum I’d agree. But the price of literally everything is going up also. Thanks to “liberation day.”
Ah well, if it's enhanced for Switch 2 then it must be worth 70 bucks... not.
@Wewewi that's a really good point, actually all the latest releases contained this kind of "surprise".
