Very happy about that, the game looks great but other Falcom games do not have the best performance on Switch. Glad that there is a version that takes advantage of the Switch 2s hardware

Is it known if it launches the same day as the other plattforms? Since it only mentions "Additional information will be announced at a later day"

Aside from a regular old physical edition, this seems to me like the best distribution option for Switch 2 games. You don't have to download the entire game just to play it, and you'll still have a playable version even if you somehow lose access to the upgrade. I hope more of the companies who refuse to pay up for Switch 2 carts choose this route instead.

it's nice that the upgrade pack is so cheap but it also makes me ask the same question that the Fantasy Life i Switch 2 upgrade pack price did, if it's gonna be so cheap then why not just make it free?

Just as a silly aside, the graphic states that to use the Switch 2 upgrade pack you require Joy Con 2's.

Do you really? Old joy cons connected to a Switch 2, or one of the Pro controllers not good enough?

I assume it's legally written to ensure you don't buy it unless you have a Switch 2 and means to control it, but it's a little odd.

The Japanese eShop has the prologue available now. The article should be updated to reflect that.

@ sega and others, take note. This is how to release a switch 1 physical game along with a digital switch 2 upgrade pack, instead of a switch 1 physical release and a switch 2 keycard with no way to upgrade.

I’m sure you could even make it two or three dollars and still make fans happy.

No extra content, why charge $1? The PS5 version is not $1 extra. What’s the corporate spin to justify this? It may be only $1 but it’s still a dog act

This is just the confirmation I needed to hear before buying this game. I'm curious to know what resolution and framerate they're targeting, but still happy it plays better on Switch 2.

Wish there was a proper Switch 2 Edition on a cartridge like Rune Factory. Or a free upgrade like FFT. But I guess $1 upgrade is bearable.

I guess it's better than what they're doing for Trails Beyond the Horizon (Switch 2 Game-Key Card, no upgrade path, and $10 more than all the other versions).

Why the dramatically different handling of the two games despite being in the same franchise from the same dev? Is it just a case of NISA being extremely greedy and GungHo being less greedy? If so, I really hope NISA loses the Falcom licenses (as Xseed did before them) and GungHo takes it over from here.

Seriously, I'm feeling compelled to support the game, now. A proper game on a proper card (to say that's a thing to celebrate, nowadays, is a sad thing indeed) and a free (or almost) upgrade path for a good old Switch 2 edition.

@Sylamp I remember reading somewhere that there's a rule on the Japanese eShop that Switch 2 Edition upgrade paths can't be given away for free, so I imagine $1 (as a regional equivalent) is lowest amount a publisher can charge.

@Jack_Goetz final fantasy tactics is a free update. I'm ok with paying 1€ for the upgrade it's better than no upgrade at all and game key card only like beyond.

@nathatruc I guess there really is no rhyme or reason to it then. But I agree, I'll happy to pay a token fee for an upgrade path and avoid GKCs altogether.

I'm not too familiar with the series - is this a remake of the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky that came out on PSP originally?

Assuming yes, is it also the whole game, or are they separating it like the FF7 remakes?

This is a full on remake of that PSP game yes exactly. And yeah this is gonna cover the whole game (and expand it even). Splitting it up like FF7R would make no sense anyway because this game already has direct sequels.

This is great news. I plan on buying a Switch 2 in early or mid September, so this will be the perfect companion piece. I adore the Trails Of and Ys games - they have helped me through some tough times in my life. To say I’m excited is an understatement. And I’m glad to see the upgrade is only a dollar.

Lovely! I was already considering getting this game eventually, but it's nice that they're offering this, and at just one dollar , which is chump change these days, at that. If I ever get this game and a Switch 2, I'll definitely purchase this upgrade for one dollar 🤣!

@JohnnyMind this doesn’t seem to be the case with final fantasy tactics coming out soon. It’s a free switch 2 upgrade for all regions including japan. I just checked it to make sure.

Works for me! No Switch 2 for me yet, so I was planning on getting this version anyway. It's nice that there's an upgrade path that's worth peanuts.

I'm playing the demo on PS5 right now! it's super fun! I am undecided whether I will get this on PS5 or Switch 2. having the Switch 2 upgrade is a big plus.

More devs should go this route. As long as the switch 2 only supports 64gb disk space. Then go the upgrade path for a dollar or 2 so that they can still earn a profit from it.

I think the better option would have been shipping on the same SW1 spec carts but then installing onto the system memory once inserted just like how other consoles handle disc.

I don’t want to encourage this behavior. Proper Switch 2 cartridges are the only thing I will support for a full priced game. When it drops to 50% off I might consider it.

For those unfamiliar with upgrade packs, it could very well download the entire Switch 2 version of the game as I believe that's what Shadow Labrynith does after you upgrade it and it essentially turns it into a Switch 2 game with the cartridge required to play it.

@SalvorHardin Hard disagree. Switch space is limited and I want the game to play from the cart, otherwise it's barely better than a game key card.

Playing the Demo on normal and the first quest to the tower requires some strategy planning to win and survive...

HOWEVER...consider that the Switch 2 physical cases are terribly ugly compared to the Switch 1 version.

Just something to think about.
