I've had my OG 3DS since launch and I've wanted to upgrade to the new 3DS XL for a while. Problem is they don't make new ones anymore so I'll probably only find them refurbished or renewed. I would imagine buying from ebay is a bad idea. Anyone try amazon renewed or have any other suggestions where I should get one?
I just want a new 3DS XL and I don't care about the 3D ones. Never used the 3D slider anyway cause it gave me headaches.
If you don't care about the 3D slider, you could consider going for a New 2DS XL (I'm pretty sure those exist). The 2DS is basically the 3DS but without the 3D slider and clamshell folding. If you still want the clamshell folding, then 3DS will be the way to go.
I'll share my experience of buying a used 3DS console: the short version of the story is that I bought a used 2DS in good condition at my local GameStop for a decently good price, everything worked perfectly. After a little over a year of use, the charger slot got twisted, even though I took good care of the precious thing. To this day, thinking about it and the amazing games I was playing at the time (I was about 15 minutes away from beating Pokémon Moon 😭) still makes me sad. I might try to get another used one in the future, but not if the prices keep being mostly high. So whether you want to risk purchasing a used one or not is up to you.
My top 5 favorite games:
1: Pokémon Violet
2: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
3: Pokémon Shield
4: Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope
5: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
You can still get a New 2 ds Xl new from Amazon .. or could very recently . I just grabbed one . Pricey but worth it to me to be new , as my old flame red original is still in great shape and chugging along, but pretty old !I just find that between the 3ds and switch lite … that is mostly what I play and should be good for years to come . Will probably get a switch 2 when they add their handheld only unit down the road .
I didn't see any new ones listed on Amazon. Walmart has them for around 250 refurbished. Just not sure which one to go with. Bought a wii u gamepad from Amazon renewed once and the screen was mostly okay but the port for the charging cable was all mangled and damaged. It worked but it was really loose.

What you're thinking of is the regular 2DS which was not made as an XL. The New 2DS XL is similar to the New 3DS XL, without the 3D. It still folds to close and has all the "New" features such as the right stick nub, ZR/ZL, and the ability to play "New" exclusive 3DS games. I have one myself, and it works pretty well. My only minor complaint is that the speakers are on the bottom corners facing the user, so they get covered accidentally while playing at times.
