@mariomaster96 @electrolite77 I believe it was discussed for the Switch 2 for the Direct back in April. Xbox wasn’t formally announced yet.

Big news. Even w/o dates just knowing the other 2 are coming is nice. And just knowing Squenix thinks Switch 2 can handle part 3 is great as I'm sure they'll be pushing PS5 into Pro territory with it.

I saw the listing on the eshop and it said 'ALREADY PURCHASED'. I haven't.

So I pressed the virtual card download button and it downloaded the original I bought for £7.99. I wonder if this will cause problems if the two games are confused?

Final Key Card Fantasy the Remake Trilogy.

Great news for those who just game on Nintendo platforms, Remake and ReBirth are excellent games but I am curious to see how ReBirth runs on the Switch 2 as it was all smooth sailing on the PS5. If it runs well I will double dip on the series and get the Switch 2 versions as a recap ready for when the final part comes out.

It’s really great to see news about current gen games coming to Switch 2. It’s been a very long time since Nintendo had consoles that could handle the same games as other platforms.

Final Fantasy is finally coming to its modern home. The Japanese market for these games should be huge, and so are the numbers of Switch units there.

@Yoshi3 Just get a Steam Deck OLED. It plays everything new and old. After I got one I was so satisfied that I sold my Switch OLED and gave my PS5 to a roommate. As long as I got this, I have no need for any other devices.

Native digital ports of the entire trilogy. That's awesome news. I'd like a true physical version but this is the next best thing.

@JustMonika I mean, thanks for the suggestion... but the thing is that I don't want to spend loads of money on consoles anymore. That's the reason I've stayed with the PS4 and now Switch 2.
If most things are coming to Switch 2 then I'm good to go.

This is good news, although it’s a shame about the game keys cards (but also, partially expected). On the positive, it’s no cloud version so it’s something, even if not physical.

That’s also great about the entire trilogy being confirmed to come to Switch 2 as well. Personally, I’ll stick with it on PS5 now I’ve made the jump, the framerate bump for Remake was noticeably improved and I dread to think of how downgraded Rebirth will look with its open world segments, but crazier things have happened.

Sounds awesome, my brother will be pleased. It is a disappointment that all the physicals are Game Key Cards, but hopefully any of the players of these games have a good time!

Interestingly, it seems like it you preorder VII remake on the eshop, you get the original VII as well, which is a cool bonus.

I can't believe they ruin the entire trilogy for Switch 2 owners. Already got the first two on Steam so if there's no real physical versions then I'm sticking to my Steam versions instead.

Not sure if everyone is getting this on the eShop, but there’s a special limited early purchase edition for $39.99. If you’re looking for it digitally, I’d say this would be the best way to get it. You won’t be charged until release date.

I wonder as to how many of the people who are complaining about the game key cards went out and bought the digital version of Silksong.

@BigTDanimegirl I agree witht he first part. Rebirth looked insane on a PS5 and getting this to run on Switch 2 is gunna take some serious scaling.

However I played Rebirth from day 1 on PS5 and it ran fine. The performance mode had its issues at launch, but that was fixed. It was a stupidly enjoyable experience and I cant wait to have it on the go with me.

Things excellent news and I just pre ordered Final Fantasy 7 on Switch 2 even though I already have it on PS4. I want to support Square Enix for bringing the trilogy to Switch, thanks guys.

This is fantastic news! Now I just wish square enix would make a pixel remaster version of Chrono Trigger, and BEFORE they make an HD-2D version! If they make the HD-2D version first, the pixel remaster will never get made, because all the momentum and interest in it will be lost. I was lucky enough to get my 13-year-old daughter to play the original Chrono trigger SNES cartridge earlier this year. She said it’s one of her favorite video games now, and it also has her favorite video games soundtrack. I’m telling you, the younger generations WILL get into this game, if it’s just released on a modern platform so that everybody can get into it. Put the original out again, as a pixel remaster!! Then move on later to an HD 2-D remake. Don’t mess this up, Square Enix!

@Kashownly Trigger is one of those games that's literally ageless in every single way. It's just as good now as it was in 2000 when I first played it on Playstation (the terrible Final Fantasy Chronicles version).

so the third part of this series is coming out to every platform day 1 so sony will not have exclusivity for a time..

Given that someone here has said the game is 88GB, I'm perplexed about the game key card complaints. The largest card size is 64GB. Of course game key cards are the best way to get it released on the switch 2.

@progx I saw that price and was kinda blown away by how cheap it is compared to other AAA Switch 2 games. Is it going up to $69.99 once it comes out?

@jsty3105 They didn't even try to optimize it. The game is 81 GB on PS5. We've seen countless games get their file size reduced by more than 50% when ported to Switch. For example, FFXII is 40 GB on PS4, but only around 12 GB on Switch.

I would much rather have slightly more compressed textures and audio to have the game on a real cartridge. Extremely large file sizes are not a good fit for a portable console. This one game will take up nearly 40% of your Switch 2's built-in storage.

I get what you're saying but, gamers say they want high frame rates and high resolution. Something has to give for it to be portable. Ppl already complain about every bit of reduced texture in a Switch 2 game. Maybe they really aren't skilled at optimising 🤷🏻‍♂️ Nintendo appear to be wizards in this area

@jsty3105 Why is this the response I get literally every time I bring this up? Cyberpunk 2077 is over 100 gigs on the PS4 and I think it's safe to assume CD Project Red started with a build of a similar nature and tweaked it to fit on a 64gig Switch 2 cart. Sacrifices may have been made, but it was done.

If folks want a gorgeous digital version, or a "convenient" game-key card version, great. But I would still love a version optimized for a 64gig Switch 2 cart.

This is a good thing! Exclusives are important as they are the major differentiating factor between consoles. Home-grown exclusives made by the console manufactures own studios that is. However, 3rd party or timed exclusivity should NOT be a thing. If you're a multiplatform publisher, your game should release on EVERY platform that can run your game, and if you asked ANY multiplatform developer's opinion on this 9/10 of them would share the same sentiment.

You get the response because we are not Square Enix... I'm not happy about a game key card or any cartridge that doesn't have the game 100% on it, but that's the trade off for this hand held. Games are just going to get bigger and compression can only go so far.

Most companies are not going to jump through hoops to sacrifice game quality / their reputation (this is an extreme case only) to fit it into portable physical media. Not enough gamers like us to justify it - at least in their eyes.

The Switch spoiled Nintendo fans - to the extreme. Nintendo created a wonderful piece of hardware that could handle almost any game at a physical level but it's successor simply can't do that. I really think it's an ASS move to put smaller games on an empty cart - but we don't have much choice given the tech we have to put larger games on it.... at least Square is including some extra stuff with that version. (cards/ reversible covers etc).

Think of how expensive a new PS5/6 would be if you could take a piece of it right off of the system and play the games in your hand after installing the full gave from their disk?
Maybe one day...
