Mario's latest 2D platformer, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition next Spring.
Tilted *deep breath* Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup In Bellabel Park, this upgrade will feature tons of new multiplayer content.
Bellabel Park plaza is a new location that you'll be able to access with the Switch 2 Edition, and that's where all your multiplayer madness begins. Phanto Tag is one of the games you can play alongside a coin-collecting, a pass the bomb-style co-op minigame, and more.
It seems like Nintendo is adding more than just multiplayer modes, too, as it teased "even more content and enhancements". Hopefully some new stages! We think we saw Captain Toad at the very least, but we definitely spotted the Koopalings.
Oh, and just in case you want your very own Talking Flower, well... Nintendo has you covered.
Will you be getting Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup In Bellabel Park? (Yes, we know it's long, but let's give it the proper title!) Let us know in the comments.

Why didn’t they mention if the game is getting a resolution boost. Should that be assumed. I assume nothing with Nintendo.
Sounds fun!! I hope those Koopalings don't hurt my beloved Captain Toad
I guess this generation our "Wii U Ports" are "Switch 2 Edition Upgrades."
Yay.... another generation of ports...
Did they change the Talking Flower's voice?
The multi-player stuff looks dumb. Only looking forward to the single player content.
One game in particular that could look even more wonderful in the increased Switch 2 horsepower state.
Enjoy your gaming
I was hoping they’d mention if switch 1 game owners could get the upgrade with a small fee like Kirby/free with switch online . I’m assuming yes but I never know what to expect anymore.
I appreciate there could be stuff we haven't seen yet that pushes the hardware to its limits, but I feel like this could have just been DLC for the Switch 1 version?
@AG_Awesome If I’m not mistaken the whole point of the “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” branding is that any game with it is an upgrade pack for an existing game, so the answer is yes
I wanted a Switch 2 edition of this game quite a bit. I was like ‘maybe they’ll add a new character and a world or something’, but no, it’s just co op minigames. As someone who doesn’t play local co op that much, this is really disappointing
@Exerion76 Considering there people who owns a Switch 1 that now own a Switch 2 that heard nothing but raved reviews for this game… It only makes sense to port it.
@jwfurness you absolutely nailed it lol. There was a surprisingly low number of new announcements for an hour long direct. I had my suspicions that Nintendo was having production issues with their games when they delayed the Switch 2 launch...and now it seems my suspicions are confirmed. They don't have anything ready. MK World and DK Bananza was it.
@sixrings Mario Party didn't get any boost, so it shouldn't be assumed. I have no interest in the Bellabel Park stuff as it's multiplayer focused, so yeah I want to know what the Switch 2 edition is
Very happy I haven’t bought this yet on switch. I’m gonna be buying Switch games into 2028.
this seems cute, makes me want to rebuy the game. the multiplayer is so chaotic though 😅 2026 is so long
@jwfurness I mean Playstation have been doing it since the PS4 era, Spiderman, Uncharted, Last of us all got remasters on PS5
Looks awesome, if I get a Switch 2 this will definitely be one of my first software purchases for the system (specifically the Upgrade Pack, since I already have the original game).
Like Kirby, no reason this could not have been a Switch 1 paid DLC release as well (with obvious resolution and Switch 2 features only functionable on Switch 2).
Just the way it goes these days I guess.
On the plus, at least early adopters can pay the upgrade path and get more for their buck. Just us Switch 1 owners that miss out for now.
This is pretty cute looking and I love that the upgrade will have both really fun looking minigames for those that love multiplayer and a single player campaign for those that play alone/prefer the main game.
Dread it.
Run from it
The Koopalikgs will always return
As much as I love Super Mario Bros. Wonder - and I bloody do love Super Mario Bros. Wonder - I'm really not interested in a bunch of multiplayer add-on fluff. Though, if more information comes out and it turns out that more is being added to the main campaign, then obviously I'll be all over it.
I assume that this will be getting a physical release too, so... yaay?
It's going to be an awfully expensive upgrade if it's merely for some multiplayer modes that I'll seldom play though.
Just multiplayer content?
Yeah what everybody else is saying. Multiplayer is not happening in my life at this point. I’ve finished the OG game 100%, so unless there’s substantial new single player content too I’m afraid I’ll pass :/
Just hoping that it will be a free upgrade for those who already have the game on the original Switch, just like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were. I never got very far in the original version myself, but I do have it. I don't want to have to pay full price again.
I'm not too crazy about Switch 2 editions especially with how new Wonder is, but this was totally expected.
@Azileron Yeah, obviously I'd be here for more content, but I'm not hankering for it. I had fun with Wonder when I played it. I even 100%-ed it, which I rarely do with games; I liked it that much. But I didn't feel like it wasn't enough, if you get what I mean?
@RoboCube here we gooo. But PlayStation does it too. The problem is that Nintendo fans were always so proud that their company didn’t go down this route. Now that they have they’re like oh but look over here.
Nintendo fans hated.
Paid DLC
Unfinished games that required patches
Paid online
And here we are 5-10 years later and we find Nintendo doing the exact same thing.
So what you’re telling me is that Nintendo will always do the worst thing. They will just be last to do it. But they will do it.
That is something worthy to celebrate and defend. Good work Nintendo.
I'm not sure about these S2 editions.
I loved Wonder... except that darn last level, but other than for collection purposes i'm not sure i need to jump in again.
I think these are going to be pretty common though and i'm not really into it.
This is the point for me where the ‘switch 2 edition’ tag changed from being attached to a scant few titles at launch, to something we’ll likely see for the console’s entire lifespan.
Are multiplayer, almost Mario Party style mini games worth a double dip if you’ve traded in your Switch copy?
Absolutely no thanks.
I shouldn't be surprised, but these Switch 2 editions are already getting old, and I get the horrible feeling a lot of the switch library is going to get Switch 2 editions. I am kind of expecting one for Paper Mario Origami King and another for Fire Emblem Three Houses at this point...
Kind of disappointed the DLC is so focused on multiplayer.
I'll just continue to hope for Mario Maker 3 with Wonder style eventually.
@FishyS I thought based on the opening that maker 3 was in fact coming.
@jwfurness at least the wii u ports had the excuse of being stuck on the wii u, but I don't care for these when I can already play the original on switch 2.
As expected considering that it's the mainline Mario game missing an update/upgrade - personally, I can't wait to play more Wonder both in multiplayer (what they focused on today) and single player (some here straight up missed that somehow but anyway, looking forward to seeing/hearing more about that) thanks to this!
Please please please please update the Yoshis to be properly playable without having them be easy mode characters, PLEASE....
Hmmmm. What they announced didn’t convince me in the slightest. Will wait and see.
Single player content? I have a feeling this will be one of these more expensive switch 2 upgrades, and I'm not sure I want it just for multiplayer that I won't touch.
I already have the Switch 1 version and doesn't feel really hype with 2D platformer games so I'm good.
I hope there’s more solo player content. Not too keen on online multiplayer stuff still.
Not a fan of multiplayer. Need more info on the single player content before purchase.
If they could get ray tracing in an open world game like Star Wars Outlaws why they can't get ray tracing running on a low demanding last gen 2d game?
I think they accidentally leaked Rosalina in that first image.
You can see her in the VS icon on the bottom left next to Yoshi.
Was kinda hoping for a full blown sequel to Wonder, but this still looks fun. I’ll probably upgrade.
@NFrealinkling Why are you assuming local coop? The Switch version had online play.
Bored of Switch 2 editions of old Switch 1 games already.
At least I can save my money for all the new stuff to start in a years time then... Maybe.
If there's extra single-player content too I'll say: Offer the original owners also a upgrade-pack, like with Kirby!
@Jujuman I meant co op with friends. The only co op I play is with randos because none of my friends own a Switch 2
Only tempted if they offer a cheaper Switch 2 upgrade path as I already beat and enjoyed the game on Switch 1...
I'll have to stay tuned for "even more content and enhancements" since the multiplayer will do nothing for me. Still, I'm glad Super Mario Bros Wonder is getting more love.
@N00BiSH I shoulda known you'd mention that 😂 But actually, I noticed two. It is so jarring. I didn't mind for Mario because, yes, Charles was iconic in the role, but Mario didn't say much more than "Whaoo!" Same with his cohorts - so their voice changes can be ignored. But the Talking Flower literally is named after his voice. It's super odd to me hearing a different voice - makes me wonder what happened.
@NintendoWife @thenikdavies @NFrealinkling (and @others-who-are-saying-they-wantwd-single-player-content) it seems that there will be new levels/story, as well. The "main" draw is the entirely new mini games, but there are more levels coming as well - and Koopaling boss fights!!
@CaleBoi25 I'm not as upset with this as I am with the Martinet-Afghani shift, rather just more confused on what the priorities are for the whole "Mario recast" at this point. Let's cast one guy for all of Charles's roles but get four VAs for Peach and the Toads. While we're at it, let's recast the guy who did the Talking Flowers even though by all accounts he's still currently available. What is going on, I have to wonder(flower)
@Azileron That last marathon stage took me a good chunk of time to do 🤣 But I'd done and collected literally everything else in the game so I had to do it.
Also, if you are my clone: my condolences.
@CaleBoi25 Yeah, I’m aware, but the main focus being multiplayer makes it so I’ll probably pass
@N00BiSH I think we must be opposites - all the other changes bugged you but not me, and vice versa here! 🤣 We are doomed to disagree. I do second you point as to being confused on the "reasoning." Why did this one swap? It makes no sense - especially since, iirc, the MPJamboree S2E had the old VA.
Five bucks says Nintendo charges $70.... Uggg. So frustrated with Nintendo right now.
Awesome! I love Mario Wonder and this is delivering alot of what I wanted. I love when the Mario games get competitive like Mario Vs. Luigi in New Super Mario Bros. DS. I hope they have real bite to them. New levels and wonder effects look great too.
Happy to see fun multiplayer co-op content! It will improve this game.
I didn't really like the main game, unfortunately. It was okay in single player. Didn't like it in multiplayer. I found it strange and not as fun as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (can never remember the full name of this), which is way more fun.
That talking flower freaks me out for some reason. Its voice as well.
I think maybe it freaks me out due to its voice. It sounds like a human adult's voice rather than a cartoon character.
I'm also freaked out by the fact that they're adding that flower in Mario Tennis Fever.
@sixrings
Ya really. I couldn't care less about the new additional multi-player content. But if it gets a res' boost from 1080p to nearly 4K than I'll definitely delete it from my NS1 library and re-download it on NS2, just like with the Updated versions for Super Mario Odyssey & 3D World. Out with the old, in with the new....ish. I'm expecting around 1800p resolution, just like with 3D World & Odyssey.
I need to see the "more" to start thinkinh about selling the Switch 1 version to help paying the new one. But if progress can't be transferred it's a no.
Sweet - more Super Mario Wonder content is appreciated!
Ehhhh...the new multiplayer stuff looks pretty throwaway. Like the kinda thing you might try once just to see what it is, and then never play again. Definitely won't have the staying power of a proper multiplayer game like Mario Kart or Smash Bros.
Looks like there will be some new single player content with the Koopalings. And it did look like there was a new "world" map. I just hope the new content is challenging.
I was pretty underwhelmed by how easy Wonder was. It felt too focused on flashy Wonder Seed gimmicks and the core platforming gameplay suffered because of it. And then they added so many "filler" course where you just talk to a Toad and mash through dialogue to get a Wonder Seed. Or those super simple "break time" stages. And then they added all these easy mode characters. And if you play online, it turns into turbo easy mode since you turn into a ghost on death and can fly to the respawn flags other players place all over the place.
I wish they'd add time trials so core players have a reason to optimize levels. Or even a rebalanced arcade-style mode with permadeath (like SMB 1 on NES).
Nintendo seems way too focused on appealing to the lowest common denominator now and doesn't really care about adding features to appeal to core players. I guess their view now is Mario Maker is for the core players and the main series is for casuals.
Yeah, this update will probably be a pass for me based on what they've shown off. Don't care at all about multiplayer and honestly I don't think Wonder holds up well on repeat playthroughs anyway.
I still need to play the main game, happy to see we're getting DLC.
It's so weird that for the best received 2D Mario since the SNES, they chose to add a bunch of Mini Games that feel like they're from NSMB DS.
@OctolingKing13
Why would you re-buy the game? AFAIK, these Switch 2 editions are the Switch 1 game card with a download code for the upgrade file. That's why I thought it weird that some on here were surprised that the Zeldas work on Switch 1.
@bleeflooflah
Some of these games won't even have a month in between their release dates. I was thinking with the rise in dev costs for 4K and with them cleaning out the closet of dormant franchises (somewhat), they should probably move to 45-day average intervals. That would be food for our wallets too with the increased MSRP. But no, they're still on their 30-day pace per first party release.
@Sonicka
I think all of these Switch 2 editions are part of the general FOMO intended to incentivize upgrading consoles. Even if they could run on Switch 1, that defeats the purpose somewhat. They didn't announce GameShare, so maybe not even through that. I could see the mice being important in that Donut Block game though.
@Markatron84
Nah, I'm all about 99%ing a game. The final 1% is often something for people with too much time or kids for whom it's worth it to have that sense of accomplishment. I'd rather wrest my autonomy back from the game devs by having them not be the decider of when I move on. 😆
@Thomystic oh, believe me, I'm very rarely about 100%-ing games. But Wonder is so good and I enjoyed it so much that - even though that last stage was difficult and took me a fair bit of time to nail down - I actually wanted to do it. That scenario occurs only very occasionally for me. I finished Final Fantasy VII Rebirth yesterday, having not done a lot of the side content because so much of it is just plain bad.
@Thomystic yeah i sold the game early last year, so id have to get it again, eighty dollars and all. probably will make the splurge though, especially if the character leak is true
@Thomystic this is essentially it. I get it, but it also sucks for those that can’t yet purchase a Switch 2.
It was the same with PS4 -> PS5 and you see the lame excuses given for exclusive PS5 DLC for games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Horizon 2, despite the base game originating on PS4.
In Final Fantasy’s case it’s even more apparent now considering Remake Intergrade is coming to Switch 2, which just serves to highlight that it was a definitive marketing choice not to have it available on PS4/Pro.
Some mini-games remind me of Runbow. Looks fun !!
@CaleBoi25
Yes! Good shout. I found this on Mario Wiki:
Unnamed Captain Toad side story
There is a new mode to the game involving Captain Toad, a Poplin wearing a similar headlamp and backpack, and Hint Toad as supporting characters, and the Koopalings as antagonists. In this side story, the player will travel with Captain Toad and the Poplin to pursue the Koopalings, who appear to use similar Wonder powers to Bowser and Bowser Jr. in the main game. A new level type is introduced here, called Brigade Tent, which contain a new collectable called Bellabel Flowers instead of Wonder Seeds.[1]

I feel like this is going to be another Forgotten Land situation. What should be free resolution upgrade will be bundled with and locked behind the DLC paywall.
@sixrings Well if you hate Nintendo so much then why are you here? By that logic every Company is the worst especially Sony and Xbox who have been doing this since the Wii U era Nintendo's "best" console lol
