SNK Announces ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 7 And Vol. 8 For Switch

Wow these collections came out so quick. Now it's 80 physical NeoGeo games already. The Switch is now becoming a NeoGeo machine.

To the best f my knowledge there has not been an English release in this series. Either way I now have the first 6 volumes from importing them so I’ll be good

These two are a bit weaker in selection for me but still good enough I’ll get them. Magician Lord is one I’m still waiting on.

The game selections are so random. I would have bought them all if there were arranged by series, genre, or year of release.

something about a TON of characters in an artwork in many of different styles is just so cool. Big reason why I vastly prefer the japanese box art for lots of retro games, they usually nail that vibe.

@PKDuckman That makes it harder to sell you the filler games.

Love this, Hamster - keep ‘em coming and I’ll keep buying! In my college years I had a friend who actually owned a NEOGEO, so each visit I’d get treated to some KOF or Fatal Fury, or admire Pulstar from afar. 😁

I think on Vol. 7, I’ll be most keen to play King of the Monsters 2, or just chill out with Puzzle Bobble. Vol. 8 is all about my old arcade fave ‘Nam 1975 for me, but I’ve heard Blue’s Journey is also quality.

I actually don’t mind the randomness of titles on each volume - it’s like walking up to a NEOGEO machine in an arcade and seeing which games are installed. Though if there is a specific game I want to play, finding it can be a bit of a chore. 😅

More NeoGeo is always a good thing.

Volume 8 has a few intriguing titles, maybe a good stocking stuffer (for myself )

Yes, that's what I was asking as I have the Japanese editions 1-4 with 5+6 on the way, all have English. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something where they were actually having a US release as I don't think they ever will.

Ok, you had me at Puzzle Bobble 1 and 2, as well as KOF 2003 (yes, really) on Vol. 7.

Can I just pay $300 and have all of the collections on a single cartridge?

In any case, I'll probably end up getting all of these... eventually. But it's especially annoying that there's probably only one or two games per collection that I'm particularly interested in.

On the other hand, I'll likely never have to buy those games again as I can play them on both Switch 1/2.

I just wish Nintendo would issue a similar collection of their arcade games as well.

@Liam_Doolan Are the ROMs the Japanese or international versions though? I have the Taito collections and most of them default to the Japanese ROMs.

A while ago I googled for lists of the best Neo Geo games. I looked for ranked lists at least 25 games long. I ended up finding 7 qualifying lists with 132 unique games and a total of 413 separate entries.

Of its 10 games included, Selection Vol. 7 has what I would call 2 top Neo Geo games (Top 45 or 50 or so):

• Fatal Fury Special
• Puzzle Bobble (aka Bust-A-Move)

• NAM-1975
• Puzzle Bobble 2 (aka Bust-A-Move 2)

I have them all in glorious 240p on my Wii.

Wow I remember my Neo Geo days going into mainly London to buy the games and exchanging some of the old ones so I could afford them.
I even had a TV that could run the system ok, which was hard to come by in the old days with the 50/60hz thing in the UK.

Towards the end of my Neo Geo days I think 2 of the last games I had was Last Resort and Top Hunter.

No one is going to buy 8+ collections just to have all the Metal Slugs.

Poor game is the bigges looser having these releases. Just put them all on a single cartridge already!

As a matter of habit, expect volumes 9 &10 to be announced on 6 November when these volumes drop. I’m still waiting on Metal Slug 3 and Magician Lord!

Someone on Reddit guesses there are about 11 volumes worth of these as there are 108 NG games available on the eShop.

For anyone wondering, if you buy from play-asia, the Asian version of each compilation has English cover art.

Hopefully SNK will release the collections everyone wants, but I’m guessing this is it for Switch. I don’t often buy ROM collections, but these are just too cool.

For anyone annoyed about the cost, I’m with you, and then I looked closer. Each game on the eShop is $7.99, and they don’t really go on sale. On these compilations, you get each game for roughly $4.19 (USD) so it’s like half the price to pick them up this way. That, for me, is huge value! As always, YMMV 👍

They should just create a big box with all these games and sell it for 200$. I will then buy them vs separated games

How can they include Superside Kicks 2, 98 etx in these collecions althought they had to delist them as a stand alone releases? I thought it was because of inclusion of Taiwan.

And STILL no Magician Lord, the quintessential, defining NeoGeo game!!!

just buy the games you want separately via AA Neo Geo digitally? Why pay so much for 1 or 2 titles...

Think I got all the AA NeoGeo games listed there that I want. NeoGeo is cool though

@Blast16 They actually go on sale quit a bit, I've picked up 16 or so and passed on many more. Normally when they go on sale they do like 5 or 6 at a time. Just mark them as favorite and you'll see them flagged when they are cheaper, usually $3.99. With that said, I've still picked up all 8 volumes so far, because NEOGEO.

@Cipher36 Gah, good to know! I guess I always hoped they’d get a physical so I never put them on my wishlist for whatever reason. But I’ve started doing that with more and more games and also setup a deku account to help me choose what to get and when. Also begun forming wishlists on play-asia, VGP and PNP for the more niche releases, and to price compare.

In closing, I fully agree with you—buy them digital and physical because NEO GEO!!

I'm interested in seeing what they eventually bundle with Waku Waku 7.

Nam 75 is an all time classic. My brother bought a Neo Geo home system back in the day and it came with the game. I got really good at it to the point where I could beat it without continuing. Still love it. It would be weird playing it without those joystick controllers though. Wonder if my 8bitdo Arcade stick would be close enough.

12 NEOGEO games/collections are on sale right now starting at $4.79. One the them is the Samurai Showdown Collection $39 normally, for $9.99. Most of them are the NEOGEO Pocket games, but the SamSho, Windjammers are from reg. Neo with the SS collection being a very nice deal.

@Cipher36 Thanks! I actually was on the eshop last night snooping around and saw these. I'm going to buy physical I think, but for the ones that never get one I'll stick to the eshop sales. I've updated the wishlist so I'll know when they're on sale going forward. Appreciate the update!
