Rosalina's Storybook From Super Mario Galaxy Goes On Sale This November

Might be neat as a novelty thing, that was always a great part of the game, but it's absurdly overpriced for a 40-some page picture book - can easily find others of similar length on Amazon at under half that price - that's contents you can easily find online or in-game anyway, and it's especially dumb that they're not including the new content.

Also it's a little thing but I can't stand how Nintendo refers to everything they put out as "the (title) game" at all times. No other publisher talks like this, it sounds so inhuman.

As neat as this is, it's just a shame that it will not include the new content.

Nice for collectors. I enjoy Dark Horse’s game books. Not getting this however. The coin that came with my preorder years ago was enough.

Too expensive in my opinion

I'd genuinely like to own this; the storybook is one of my favorite parts of Super Mario Galaxy. However, I'll admit $25 seems a bit much...unless this is also secretly an art or history volume for the game.

Rosalina's storytelling about her past is one of my favorite things of the character (and SMG1), so I love this idea. Unfortunately, that price is keeping me away from buying the book, and the fact that it won't include the new content is nuts.

And with Nintendo Music having the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack, you can read the story just like Rosalina did in the game.

If nothing else, it's a great outlet for some tears. 🥲

@Lizuka Reminds me of a point from Jenny Nicholson's video on the Star Wars hotel. When a normal person talks about their trip, they'd say something like "I went to the Star Wars land at Disney World and rode the Millennium Falcon ride." But when someone who's been paid to advertise the park, they're legally required to say "I visited Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort and experienced Star Wars: Millennium Falcon – Smugglers Run!"

I was expecting far more than that to be frank. Still not particularly interested.

Fun to see some defictionalization, but I wonder: if they didn't want to add the new pages to this, why bother making new pages at all?

@Lizuka This is actually because trademarks are only adjectives, not nouns. If you look at a few food products or whatever carefully you’ll see “Brand” written underneath stuff to protect them. It comes down to this: if I make a thing and call it “a Bonzolator” then you can also make a Bonzolator. It’s just descriptive, what it is, even if it’s a new term. But if I called it the Bonzolator-brand device, then I can register that and sue you if you make one. For the same reason, LEGO will insist that it’s LEGO bricks not LEGOs, Google will shout at you if you say you’re Googling for something, and you “unlock iPhone”, you don’t “unlock your iPhone”. Basically, the more lawyers you have in your communication stack, the pickier the output is going to be, and Nintendo has a lot of lawyers.

A lovely replica of Rosalina's storybook costs less than a single Kirby Air Riders Amiibo. Keep this in mind.

Years ago I made my own copy of this book from some high res captures someone put online because my kid was always wanting to play Mario Galaxy just to go to the library. Replacing that hodgepodge print will be a great upgrade and right in time for my youngest who has started playing Mario Galaxy and similarly loves Rosalina.

$25 for something people will look at for less than an hour before putting it on their shelf or closet to collect dust...

Do I need this? No. Will I buy it? Yes.

I actually don't mind them not including the new pages, the original story is as fine as it is.

They will add those pages in a future update to the book, I'm sure.

If the quality is there, this ofc a very awesome collector's item. It at least looks hard cover and the print looks good on the picture.

If it had all the pages I would've gotten it. Now it just feels incomplete and I'll be passing it up, as such.

Tariffs aside… 😉 I’m sure this will be reasonable for a limited run hardback book. I’m estimating £18-£20 in the UK. That’s alright in my book (pun intended).

I guess it's another collectors piece but doesn't feel iconic enough to be important.

Hmm I'd like to add one thought that strangely hasn't come up here yet. Seeing how this is supposed to actually be a children's book... I'm curious what age recommendation they will give it. As a parent: It is a very sad story, not one my kids would enjoy at their current age. Deceased mothers don't go down well with little children for bedtime.

@Lizuka fyi it's 112 pages. $25 for 100+ pages seems the going rate for Dark horse published hardcover books.

When they're new, the standard 32-40 page picture books are actualy quite expensive. Look up "Flat Cat: The Class Pet" it's a 40 page illustrated childrens book released this year & the rrp is $18.99 (amazon have it for $17.66 right now)

When he hyped up the added extra pages in the game, then immediately said they are making a physical book but not won’t have the aforementioned hyped up pages, I could literally hear the ball being dropped.

I am trying to figure out how much of it is rose tinted glasses, but I swear Nintendo used to put more care and attention into little details like that.

Seems they are pumping stuff out so fast and not putting in that extra mile of effort that Nintendo was always known for doing when they didn’t ever have to.

But like I said, maybe I’m just remembering incorrectly with too much nostalgia.

I was going to get it because I love collecting merch like this, but without including any of the new pages they're adding? Nope, for that reason I'm out.

Really feel like this should have had the extra content. (Maybe they'll sell it as dlc for an extra 10$ - I jest but only partially, sadly) But pretty cool collectible and unique to the games. Much better than 40$ pieces of plastic.

It should've been included in a special edition or a given as a My Nintendo reward.

I've been waiting forever for the book to be an actual physical one.
I don't care if it doesn't have the new pages, I'm getting this one. Though I hope you can get it on bookstores eventually, thanks once again for not shipping My Nintendo physical goods to Mexico directly.

@Lizuka It could be an artefact of translating from Japanese to English – Japanese doesn't have articles, so it might be a kind of overgeneralisation. But yeah, you'd think they'd get a native speaker translator to make it seem more idiomatic
