Poll: What Review Score Would You Give 'Kirby & The Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World'?

It's peak from the one level I've played, hoping to get to it again if I have time this week!

New Super Kirby and the Forgotten Land Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Star Crossed World and Knuckles Deluxe Definitive Edition HD Remastered for the Wii U and 3DS Expansion Pack with Dante from the Devil May Cry Series and with an all new Funky Mode Player's Choice Day One Edition Transformed Racing All-Stars Plus Bowser's Minions and Bowser Jr's Journey Fighters Pass 1 X Shadow Generations ‘0.2 Final Chapter Prologue’ ll Turbo was pretty good. Gotta be at least a 9/10 for me.

From what I've seen and heard, a solid 9/10.

My one issue is they didn't give us even one new copy ability. Not even a new upgrade blueprint for an existing one.

The three mouthful modes are fun but they are pretty limited to specific sections.

I wasn't sure what game you were talking about ohhhhh! You mean Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World now I get it.

I never played forgotten land and don’t plan to anytime soon. 3D platformers that aren’t open collectathons aren’t my personal cup of tea… but I can’t deny this is an immensely high quality product with lots of love behind it

I usually never vote in these polls because I haven't finished the game when they're posted. I said 8/10, because ultimately it's more of the amazing fun that the original was, but a much shorter and more compact experience. 12 full levels, plus a boss, and a new boss rush is well worth the price. I only wish they added new challenge levels for the new Mouthful modes.

The only Kirby game I enjoyed was Canvas Curse on DS. But I want to play Forgotten Land simply because it's a level-based platformer, sadly those are dying breed now.

It’s the first $80 Nintendo Switch 2 game, MKW is free seeing as the pack-in with system is the only option at retailers for $500, and DKB is $70. At such a premium price, the game is too short and the graphics are near identical to the $60 Switch 1 game. If you haven’t played it already on Switch 1, this Switch 2 title only gives you 2.5hrs extra gameplay. I wouldn’t score it to high because it’s a poor value for the money.

I've already downloaded it but had no time yet. I'm hoping I won't breeze through the new levels in 30 mins.

Looking forward to revisit though, I was pleasantly surprised with that game back then! Some levels were just excellent. Fantastic music too in some!

As an upgrade an 8, as a standalone game/if this was its first release a 10. At first I thought 20 bucks was steep, but Ps5 upgrades used to cost 10, so 10 bucks for a smaller expansion plus a 10 dollar next gen upgrade isn’t that bad

I only ever got to the end of second world of the original on Switch (which I bought on release) as I had something else I wanted to play, and I just never got back to it. I had always intended to get back to it, and when I saw there was an upgrade coming for Switch 2 with some new levels, I figured that would be as good a time as any to get back in.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting how much more of a joy the game would be to play at 60fps and the nicer visuals, it’s just so much more fluid and smooth and enjoyable compared to how the 30fps (w/ like 5fps background animations) and muddy visuals felt. Also, I felt the first two worlds were kinda samey when I played on release, which is kinda why I put it down… But with the start of world 3, right on until all the post-game, challenge levels, and new DLC levels, I was completely hooked to this game over the last couple days and literally 100%’d everything since the DLC came out a few days ago - and I never play anything that fast, let alone put in the time to 100% them.

Can’t understate how much better the performance upgrade makes the game feel, and the upgrade would have been worth the price of admission for that alone, but the 12 new levels were also fantastic, and the new mouthfuls were great fun!

Solid 9/10!!!

Unfortunately like most DLC you get 5% extra gameplay for 33% of the price of a full game.

I feel like yall send out these polls way too quickly! Especially for someone like me who takes their time with games. No way I’ve beaten DK yet;) let alone started my Kirby reboot!

@sixrings and how’s that business model working out for them? I’ll happily support upgrades and extra content that had actual work put into them with my money to support the continued releases of great games made by people and teams that don’t get laid off over whatever the hell is going on in the xbox / microsoft ecosystem.

@Dalamar that's ironic, considering Canvas Curse (and Rainbow Curse, by extension) is widely considered by the Kirby community to be one of the worst games in the franchise (a sentiment I myself share).

I don’t really want to score it yet because I don’t feel as though I’ve played enough yet. I’m still on Natural Plains, but I definitely like what I’ve played so far! Love the 60fps and higher resolution vs the demo version that I’d played previously.

@Cakefish better resolution yet not 4k. Very few switch one games got true 4k patches which isn’t encouraging for the longevity of this system.

@Rijzebrew I’m sure Nintendo is really hurting and without this price everyone would be fired. It doesn’t even make sense. How can dlc cost 33% of the original game price without making insane profit margins.

Nice addition to the best game of its release year. A bit on the short side (like the main game tbf) so an 8 for me.

Not enough content. I feel like a few years back we'd all be discussing how slight this is. Something changed with consumers.

For me it's a solid 9, an improvement over a game that was already an 8.5.
Anyway, DLC or not, whoever says this game is too easy should try to beat all the timed challenges in wild mode and get 100% completion.
I'm loving every part of this game although platformers aren't exactly my cup of tea anymore.

Question to those who've played the game: Does Forgotten Land have any additional campaigns/modes like other Kirby games? I've gotten the impression that it's 10hrs for the base game and the $20 DLC adds an additional hour.
I would never say that playtime = quality, but for $80 it's certainly a hard sell.

@Kingy at the end of the day if you want this dlc and didn’t have the original game the two combined costs more than donkey kong. There’s no way to explain that away. But sure. 8/10 because money suddenly doesn’t mean anything.

@sixrings as someone with a full time job, 2 kids, and a backlog of 65 +/- games on Switch alone to play, I can’t stress enough how much i would gladly play $90 for a few more high quality games that are 10-15 hours (as games used to be). I’m not 15 years old anymore, I can’t sink literal days at a time into a game just to be 10% of the way through it - it’s defeating and eventually it just becomes a slog.

On the contrary, I bought this DLC, which not only improved the feel of the main game significantly from it’s original release and made it way more enjoyable to play, but I ended up playing through the 80% of the main game I never finished on SW1, did all of the challenges, all of the coliseum, 100% all levels, and all of the DLC and had an absolute blast, and felt like I accomplished something after a couple days.

I can’t stress enough how over these bloated 50-100 hour games I am. And this is coming from someone who exclusively played JRPGs as a kid and teenager in the 90s and 2000s (which also weren’t these ridiculous 100 hour slogs that a lot are these days either).

@Dalamar tons of other Kirby games are also level based platformers. Lol. You missed out on a lot of them. Kirby’s Return to Dreamland is great too, and you can get it on Switch.

@Rijzebrew I completely agree with you. Of the hundreds of games that take more than 50-100 hours to complete, I've probably only had fun with the Mario (not really) RPGs, the Zelda series, and a few others. Most of the rest, while not "bad," is simply bloated. Once upon a time, games used to be incredibly entertaining in just 10-20 hours, though you often ended up spending much longer on them, but you already knew the challenges each one presented, and you tried harder and harder to complete them, and the more skilled you became, the faster you completed them. This Kirby game feels more "old school," while DK Bananza feels bloated to me, especially in the beginning. It feels like they released the latter unfinished but for some reason still wanted to make it last THAT long in advance, so they stuffed the beginning with unnecessary stuff. But it looks like there isn't much care for those gamers that have a life. Meanwhile, backlogs grow more and more with games that most people haven't even tried to play.

@SirLink this exactly. I was recently thinking about how a lot of games from my childhood - even some of the “lengthier” (for the time) ones - I would play and then replay. I’ve played all the PS1 Final Fantasies several times each, all the MGS games several times, Spyro, Crash, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, even more recent games like the Uncharted games I’ve played through several times. Most of those are a solid, quality 10-20hr campaign that is constantly coming up with fresh ideas or new challenges to entertain you and keep you hooked.

Compare that to today, when a lot of the time by 60-70% through a game I’m like “omg how much longer is this game?” And then just mainline to the finish. SOOO many games these days just completely overstay their welcome, even ones where the first 20 hours I’m like “This game is amazing!!!” And then by hour 50+ I can’t WAIT to roll credits and immediately delete it from the console, never to play it again. It’s unfortunate. Sone of my absolute best gaming memories from the past couple years have been tight sub-10-hour indie games that I can polish off in a couple evenings and feel like I’ve done something.

@SirLink oops, forgot to comment on DK Bananaza. I did find it bloated and definitely found myself powering through the last 25% of it just to see the finish, but I also did have a blast with the game once I stopped trying to “do everything” on each layer. That game definitely benefits from just mainlining on your first playthrough (with maybe a couple extra bananas here or there to get some upgrades), and then doing “clean-up” (literally) of the layers post-game when you have the tools necessary to do so.

I would give it a, why isn't the full game on the physical copy out of ten.

I’ll probably get the update at some point. I did like the game on the Switch 1.

I will be buying the upgrade soon. Just got a ton of games I’m currently playing. But I remember playing the first world a couple of years ago and the low resolution and fps really hindered the experience.

I’m very excited to play this at better settings on my 4K TV.

@sixrings Truly there's never been a better time to forgo new games and start chipping away at your backlog.

I don't think it sells itself entirely on the new content. You aren't getting a huge amount of new levels, and they include a fair few reused locations with new elements.

Rather, it's the performance improvements to the base game that make this worth having. If you're tempted to replay the entire game at the slicker frame rate, it's well worth the price of entry.

@Altaria_97 you won’t regret it for the performance update alone - the 60fps makes this game an absolute joy to play! Enjoy!

@Rijzebrew as someone with two kids I’m not buying this game for myself. I’m buying it for my kids. And that’s simply too much money for too few hours until they are asking for something else.

@Rijzebrew Funny how people either don’t know, or forget how expensive Super Nintendo games were and some NES games, I remember as a kid we had to order through a retailer dragon warrior 2 and paid almost 90 bucks for it.

@Kingy when switch 3 comes around Nintendo will upscale all their games to actual 4k 120fps add one level each and slap $30 because of inflation on it and people here will 8/10 for a new experience and quality gaming in a time when people are too busy for actual sizeable dlc.

@Airsqueeble that was a different world where cartridges actually cost money vs something were digitally being loaned. It was also a different world because each of us had a blockbuster down the street so we rented more games than we owned. It was also a different world because there was less gamers to sell the actual games to. But yes. It’s exactly the same. Let’s pay $114.99 (CAD) for a game and be ecstatic.

@Matt_Barber great but why do some switch 1 games get performance upgrades for free while this is locked behind dlc? Other than crappy business practice for the nintendo fan.

@sixrings also Canadian, also paying the insane costs… that said, 95% of the games I buy I buy on STEEP discounts using Deku Deals (or actually, now that the Switch 2 is out and the eShop has gotten a bit of an upgrade, the actual eShop wishlist does what Deku Deals always did for me), so I’m not overly upset by the one MAYBE two first party Nintendo games I have to buy at full price in a year - and even those I will sometimes wait for the 33% discount or w/e it is.

The fact of the matter is videogames just havn’t gone up with inflation like everything else has, and they are worth more (atleast the VERY few that are actually complete and polished upon release, which atleast Nintendo first-party games tend to be) than we are paying for them - its as simple as that. Mobile gaming and the race-to-the-pricing-bottom completely devalued games for an entire generation of gamers, and so now we’re left with an industry rife with unfinished, untested, messes of games on release that tout “road maps” for **CONTENT** (aka. Them finishing their game after you’ve bought it) and microtransaction slop to extract every dime out of you they can after their initial “low price” to try to recoup costs… and yet even still dev teams are being closed constantly and games cancelled… its not sustainable.

So again, I’ll happily pay for 1 or 2 full price Nintendo games in a year - some of the only games that I can count on actually being finished and polished these days, because they actually know their worth and expect to get what they are worth for them - and then continue to get others on sales or just keep chipping away at a backlog that I’ll never finish.

Fwiw, my two kids got YEARS of entertainment out of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Neither ever beat it till now, but they threw it on regularly to play a level or two with eachother or friends, and then when I was playing it after the update, both wanted to join in with me and help me beat some of the harder endgame and postgame bosses and play all the new levels with me. So I would say both myself and my kids have gotten our money’s worth out of the base game and upgrade.

@Rijzebrew my six year old beat Mario wonder so I’m skeptical Kirby is going to hold him over for very long.

@sixrings lol that is awesome, I wish my kids were more dedicated to getting better at and finishing games. Neither of them finished Wonder. My 6 year old has beaten Odyssey (with my help) and a few indie games like Lil’ Gator Game and Donut County, but usually just plays for a bit and moves onto something else. My 9 year old actually just beat Breath of the Wild on his own (which he was playing on an off for years, but only actually focused on actually beating it over the summer) last week, so I’m super proud of him for that. Both are working on Kirby now seperately (after co-op’ing with me), but I doubt either will see it through.

Cheers though, and keep instilling that love for games in your kids, sounds like they’re off to a great start!

The rule seems to be free performance updates if there's no new content, but you pay if there is.

@Matt_Barber but that’s not even true. ITs completely subjective to what Nintendo thinks they can get away with. For instance Zelda breath and tears had paid performance patches. You’re going to have to be extra creative to explain that as anything other than Nintendo thinking they simply can get away with it.

@sixrings not that I’m trying to defend it, but they added in the “Zelda Notes” and entire Zelda app functionality (GPS to everything in the game for people wanting to 100%, build stuff for TotK, item trading / gifting stuff) for both BotW and TotK… yeah it was pretty lame (and in the brief time I used it with my son to help him find some things it was buggy as hell and kept crapping out), but those are technically extras included on top of the (not insignificant) performance upgrade. Someone(s) DID work on it, and should be compensated, they didn’t just flip as switch abd boost performance.

@sixrings also, you need to remember those are also included free with the NSO subscription - so they’re somewhere between a free and paid upgrade

@sixrings Zelda notes is the new content. You might not find it particularly exciting or interesting, but it's not in the original game.

And also technically somewhere between a paid and free upgrade anyways, since it’s included for everyone with the NSO+EP sub - which presumably is a decent number of their player base. I have it and I almost still want to pay for the zelda upgrades just so I “have” them in case they remove from NSO or I stop subbing.

I definitely would say the DLC is a bit slighter than it should've been. Giving us around half the base game's worth of levels feels appropriate, especially because while the Forgo Dreams stages did shake up the base layouts, the Starry Stages are mostly original layouts that reuse assets (though there are still some new ones), and when they do rely on areas from the base game, they're more dramatically altered. The soundtrack also goes above and beyond, since every stage gets at least 1 song to call its own when the base game did reuse songs quite a bit, and they even threw in some additional themes for The Ultimate Cup Z EX and locations in Waddle Dee Town. But while the new Mouthful Modes get explored fairly extensively in the new levels, the lack of Treasure Roads for them was disappointing, especially because it would make collecting all the new figures easier by providing some new sources of Rare Stones. Considering how excellent the level design in the Starry Stages, it is disappointing that we don't get any challenge stages on the side. I also noticed the framerate dipping a couple of times, which was minimal enough to not be especially detrimental, but was disappointing considering how the Zelda Switch 2 Editions maintain 60fps outside of extreme circumstances. While the lore revelations landed well, the actual setup for the plot is handled a bit awkwardly as well. Still, I had an excellent time with the DLC. Based on the credits, it does seem like the side of HAL that's focused on the smaller eShop spinoffs was largely responsible for Star-Crossed World while the main team continues plugging away at the next mainline game, and I think this was a far better use of their talents. This feels like Forgotten Land's Heroes in Another Dimension equivalent to me; at least it's attached to a base game that's excellent in its own right and not a 7/10 at best. I'm even more excited to see what HAL does with the series next now; if they can iterate on Forgotten Land with level design of this caliber (and hopefully some of the somewhat higher difficulty) while fixing its handful of flaws (more Abilities and minibosses), I think we could get a Kirby game that reviews comparably to Bananza and the 2 2D-styled 3D Mario games.

Canadian here too; and yes, the pricing is absolutely insane. 115$CAD, are you kidding me?

I think for those who bought and enjoyed the game on the S1, the $20 upgrade is worth it to me for the performance boost and extra content. $80 as an entire package and an entry point is a lot to ask unless you have absolutely nothing else to play on the console right now. I'd say track down a used S1 copy of the original game and play that first, and if you enjoy the game, do the $20 upgrade afterwards.

@Airsqueeble funny how people forget how hardware costs generally dropped dramatically since the 90s, and I'm not even mentioning the storage costs.

I've yet to play Star-Crossed World, but apparently it has 12 new levels, whereas the base game has 40. So unless the new levels are much shorter than the old ones, that means you get 30% more gameplay (plus updated graphics and better performance) for 33% of the price of the original game.

@Polvasti 40 doesn't include the 7 epilogue levels... But each of the epilogue levels are reimaginings of at least 3 levels. Plus the DLC has exactly 0 abilities compared to the original games 12 or 35 depending on how you count them. That doesn't mean the DLC has 0% more gameplay, only 0% new gameplay when considering abilities. Upgraded performance hardly counts. Nearly every switch game has updated performance when running on the Switch 2. Thankfully Nintendo hasn't paywalled load times. It's like buying a new graphics card and playing a game you already own. The developers don't charge you a fee to go from 1080p to 4k in the menu when you buy a new graphics card. At least thankfully for no games I own.

I'm not saying that if people buy this they shouldn't enjoy it. I think, like most DLCs, it's pretty much only for people that have played the heck out of a game because they love it and are happy to have even a little more content. Or people that have enough money where $20 is meaningless for a small percentage of extra gameplay. For those people I'm sure this will be a fun little strole in one of the best Kirby games.

Even for the $20 asking price, there just wasn't enough content for me to stay on board with it for long. No few additional Copy Abilities, no "crystal" versions of world bosses, no other reasons to spend Starry Coins besides more figurines, etc. Heck, even the new levels and Mouthful Modes didn't impress me all that much.

5/10. The new "modified" levels have all been so basic and repetitive in their makeup — trigger crystal path, reveal hidden road, yawn — that I lost interest in them after the eighth, and so what I'm left with is that I paid $16 for a slight resolution output boost and a bump in framerate, but no other changes in assets or anything.

Resolution and performance boost should've been a free update ala Pokemon Violet, and the Star Crossed Worlds would've been better left alone — or made a proper DLC if they'd felt more inspired.
