The US one (as so often) is an absolute abomination! Gobsmacked if anyone votes for that and prefers it over the European and Japanese ones.
As so often, Japan wins with classy art and great layout that perfectly capture the feel of the game.

Japan is so busy that it becomes a clear choice.
Characters are a bit weirdly stretched. But this illustration gives much more accurate expectations of the actual game.

The Japanese boxart fer sure. Also, this is one game that, in a review, I'd give the soundtrack at least 11 out of 10. Yuzo Koshiro made that Sony sound chip absolutely SING.

I almost picked Europe because even though it's just a cut edit of the Japanese version, the Japanese cover is a little too busy to my liking. At least it doesn't have the crappy Mattel logo on white background. ^^

Uh yeah. It's obviously japan this time around. At least for me, it went from god is that ugly for US to hey that's actually pretty cool for EU and finally okay there's no competition there for JP.

Holy Nintendo of America couldn't possibly allow such blasphemous boobage on the cover unfortunately.

None of them are particularly great this time and honestly, this time, the American one sucks. I chose Japan even though I didn't particularly care for that one either.

I do enjoy Susumu Matsushita’s illustrations. His American-comic inspired designs definitely stand out from his peers.

He famously won Hudson’s national Star Soldier competition with his incredibly rapid rate of fire. Hudson then hired him for celebrity endorsement and advisor, named the Adventure Island games after him, and made him protagonist for the hit series. I think all that interesting context was scrubbed from the Western versions of the games, sadly.

@Spoony_Tech I picked NA and I won't feel bad for it! The EU and Japan ones aren't bad, but the NA one feels more adventurous and has more action going on rather than just a group shot of various characters and creatures.

I much prefer the NA version as an adult. It just looks more like a game I'd be interested in and is not as busy as the other 2. I like the artwork a lot more as well. 13-year-old me back when this thing came out though probably would have said Japan.

I'm not normally a fan of the Japanese cover art, but in the case the choice is clear.

wow the us version is bad compared to the others

Super Famicom version by a mile. Anyone who favours the US one must be severely lacking in taste.

Japan wins for me (and that's actually the version I own, so a bit of bias), but the US boxart was where baby me first developed her crush on Master Higgins lol, so it gets one nostalgia point.

Man I'm kinda spilt on this one this week because I like the NA and JP covers equally for different reasons for starters with the NA cover i like the whole mine cart style because it gives off DKC 1 vibes which i kinda like and then the Japanese version is cool because it's shows off all the cool cast of characters way better than the EU version in my opinion but ultimately I picked the JA version because it's the more interesting out of the 3 but that's not to say the NA version is bad either mind you.

I really love the JP cover, I've never seen it before. But I gotta vote for NA for purely nostalgic reasons. It takes me back to scouring the snes section of my local video rental store back in the day. Also this game really need to come to NSO already.

Both are equally good IMO. Both perfectly capture the vibe of the game in different ways and I look at them and immediately think "oh yeah thats adventure island". Not voting cause I love em' both.

wow, I'd never seen the JP/EU versions before. That NA one looks absolutely terrible by comparison. Both JP and EU have that wonderful booba, so it's a tough choice. But I think the JP one lays out just a bit better with that portrait-style art. Well done, JP/EU!

Ah yes, the good old American approach of looking at the original Japanese box art, thinking to oneself, "We can do better. What if we just made this so, so much uglier?" and then executing

Ironically the Japanese art looks like it was going for an American cartoon style, and imo succeeds. The European version is arguably even worse than the American one bc it literally just takes the Japanese art, cuts it down, and puts it on a box with incredibly clumsy placement of logos and stuff. At least the American one is original.

I might be a bit biased since Super Adventure Island was among the first 10 or so games I played on my SNES as a child, but I had to go with the American art.
The others, especially Japan, are too busy.

Though the naked natives with spears might be something more suiting of 1992.

Ha ha! Lots of harsh comments about the NA one. That surprises me because it's not anywhere near as ugly as some other covers we have seen to get this kind of backlash. Last week's Japan Wario cover was pretty awful, especially with his partial face in the middle. And I remember when the vastly superior Japanese F-Zero cover lost to the static and boring NA cover due to nostalgia. But perhaps none of the people trashing the NA cover today voted for the NA cover of F-Zero. Or maybe some did and they too have no taste.

I voted for the NA cover today. It's not because it's good, but because I don't like any of these. I don't usually prefer the NA-ified covers of the era. The art style is typically off. Here, it's okay. It captures the vibe of the game well and the composition is competent. I'm not as quick to say art is cluttered as some are, but today I join that team. Both the Euro and Japan covers are super cluttered, especially Japan's. It's a mess. But I probably still would have picked Japan except I also don't like the art style used here. In particular, the human characters look bizarre in this style. So thanks to the extreme clutter and weak composition, I'm left with NA as the least bad of the three in my opinion. I'm not usually in the contrarian camp when the vote is a blowout, but that's where I'm at today.

I prefer the cartoony style of the Euro and Japanese ones, but the Japanese one is too busy. I picked Euro despite the wordmark being the most generic ever. The NA one puting "island" in leaves isn't super creative or aesthetic, but at least it's something.

A rare example where I actually prefer the North American version.

The gb version is one of my first nintendo games i got for my birthday (91?). Like the game but gor somereason the boxart (eu version) which looks a bit like this american one never felt right

While JP might be the busiest, if you're going to bring it, you might as well bring it all. Europe is okay, NA is meh.

Remembered playing this game on SNES. Wow that opening music of the first level was amazing, and still is today. For those who don’t know - the game's soundtrack was composed by Yuzo Koshiro. Who made music for Streets of Rage, and other games too.

If the European cover didn't have the red border, it might actually show what Master Higgins/Takahashi Meijin is looking at. For that reason it doesn't get my vote, but Japan does so I'll vote that.

In fact, why are you neglecting the Hudson Soft library beyond Bomberman and Momotaro Dentetsu? Why did you buy Hudson Soft IPs if you don't intend to do anything with them?

JP is of course the best here! It's amazing how many characters they cram in. Although I actually like NA as well.

i picked north america simply because i own the cart and have fond memories of this game. but really, japan should win every single vote for nearly every snes game in existence, so this poll is kind of pointless honestly.

I had this game as a kid so I've chosen the EU artwork, since that's what calls to my nostalgia the most. But the Japanese box is pretty awesome. Too bad this was such a mid game otherwise...
