I see that the banding issue that Digital Foundry noted on Galaxy 1 in 3D All-Stars is alive and well in this collection, despite earlier claims to the contrary by GVG.

One can see it well starting at about the 46 second mark and lasting for about 10 seconds.

That is a lot of money especially when the Mario 3d All Stars was 3 games for $60 when it was released. But Nintendo is gonna Nintendo.

I think that's a great perspective you have right there. It's a shame Nintendo didn't market the system the same way. They've never made a v1.5 mainline console before.

Here's hoping 2026 is going to offer up some heavy hitters!

@X68000 I currently see Switch 2 as a mid-generation hardware refresh with some exclusive games, akin to the DSi or new 3DS, except this time it actually plays Switch games better, like how people speculated the long rumored Switch Pro would do. That's actually what I bought the system for in the first place, so I can't say that I've been disappointed in that area.

@GgGames @LastFootnote Xenoblade Chronicles 1 was given heaps of praise and was basically a Switch GotY candidate for a lot of people in Nintendo circles. Few people complained about Skyward Sword or Sonic Colors (I know that’s not Nintendo, but it’s a Wii game). For the most part, people were positive toward Kirby’s Return to Dreamland. Even 3D All Stars was generally considered a great release at launch. The only games I recall having true resistance was the Donkey Kong games, and Tropical Freeze is a WiiU title, so that’s a bit of a different beast. Luigi’s Mansion 2 is a 3DS game, so that’s a bit of a different beast too.

Porting two 10/10 games at $40 a pop is a good value. Nintendo could’ve sold both games individually at full AAA price and people would be buying them. This is better than that. In an era where we’ve been getting low effort ports and low effort remasters/remakes at $60 and $70 for individual games, this is better than that. It feels like there is far more outrage toward this package than most of the other ports we’ve had the last 5-10 years.

Enjoyed both Galaxy games more than Odyssey. Better music and gameplay. New assist mode looks great. Worth a purchase if you've never played either one.

@N00BiSH I said 2 was more linear than 1, not that 1 was as linear as the previous two games.

The main point is that Galaxy 2 is received more favorably because it offered entirely new content rather than remixing previous content. Closer parallel to TOTK would be new super Luigi Bros U.

Well this trailer accomplished its goal, I will definitely be buying Super Mario Galaxy 2. And since I’ve only ever played the first one, I am happy to experience it for the first time.

@somnambulance It wasn't cool, people literally were super annoyed that Tropical Freeze was more expensive than it was when it first released on the Wii U and all they added to it was Funky Kong.

I wasn't sold on this port combo before, but after this? I'm sold even less! Nothing in this looks like it justifies $35 per game.

@poyo_pie Galaxy 1 wasn't really about exploration either - it was more linear than the likes of 64 and Sunshine. Galaxy 2 just polished it up a little more which is great if you liked that but me, I can take it or leave it.

How many Wii ports were priced at $60 in the Switch 1 era and it was cool? Now, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are being sold at $70 together or $40 a piece and it’s not, even though both games are bonafide masterpieces?

Let’s be real and admit this is actually pretty decent value.

@N00BiSH you say that, but one sequel offers entirely new content as well as a different approach to the overall level design emphasizing challenging platforming over exploration.

Galaxy 2 is closer to Majoras Mask than TOTK.

And the obsession with the starting prices not just of these but games, systems etc. in general and so the disregarding and consequent harming of the games themselves and their creators - people who have worked on them and whose livelihoods depend on them - (and ironically also the whole getting games as Game-Key Cards and so on instead of fully physically as much as I'm sad to see that overshadowing the way more important abovementioned aspects) continues even though people could and should simply look/wait for discounts like some here, me included, have been doing all this time...
Leaving that aside, overall great trailer showing both the games in general for newcomers and most additions for veterans - looking forward to replaying these games thanks to this rerelease at some point (maybe straight up for my channel and so not anytime soon, but still)!
