@Deemo37 I don't know what to do. I have faced the Last Judge a couple times and have gotten destroyed. Watching videos of people beating him just make me feel like I will never beat him.

Super difficult but it has more variety than doing the same run over and over. Plus it ended up having one of my favorite fights in the game so it was a win.

@CJD87 Ugh of course it is. I’ve been dreading it since some of my friends got there first.

@Deemo37 just wait until you go through Mount Fay to get the double jump ability... absolutely the worst part of the game, and borderline unenjoyable! Aside from that though, I think SS genuinely delivers... and I'm pleased that Team Cherry delivered the game 'they wanted to make' without compromises or pandering etc. A good job, and the boss designs/patterns are really excellent I feel

Nice review and nice score! Yes, its a very good game but also very hard. The Moorwing was a nightmare and sister Splinter was pretty hard too (though probably easier then Moorwing). Overall I need several tries on almost every boss, its that hard. Don't know if I ever reach the end, but for now I'll truck on!

This game is addictive, there aren't many games I'd give 10/10, but this is one of them.

I agree. I’m only >10 hours in but the challenge is part of the fun. I feel faster and stronger than HollowKnight but also things can turn against me suddenly, and I’ve lost my rosaries a few times already.
I lived Hollow Knight and Silksong is turning out to be everything I’d hoped for.

After ~25 hours in (still early in Act 2) I think I'm ready to leave it as an 8/10 that could've been a 10 if it wasn't so punishingly hard. (Probably ~10 of those hours are just running back to a boss fight...)

For me the original HK hit that perfect balance of being hard but fair - I died a lot but it nearly always felt like it was my fault. Silksong just tips it too far into unfairness/frustration/luck.

If they ever add an easy mode or equivalent quality-of-life options (e.g. boss retries, single-point damage for running into a boss) I'd love to come back to it because there's an amazing game in there, but in the current state it's just not one I find fun a lot of the time.

I realise this is probably not the most popular opinion, but I view video games as an art form - particularly when created by such a small team staying faithful to their own vision. I think once you've bought the game you should be able to mod it and rip it apart if you want, but I don't think there should ever be an onus on the developer to make something "easier" or indeed different in any way than the vision they and they alone had for the art, just because it does not appeal to every single person.

There's more nuance to this when it comes to accessibility options, but even then... lots of things aren't accessible to everyone.

My final word is that the game is phenomenal and an easy 10 for me - the best gaming experience I've had this year so far.

My only complaint (I'm somewhere in the middle of act 3) would be that Team Cherry sacrificed Hollow Knight's well-knit compactness for a much grander adventure - so large, in fact, that quite a few important points of interest can be missed purely out of forgetfulness. Only by meticulously marking the map (or consulting online communities) one can experience everything the game has to offer in a manner (seemingly) intended by the developers.
I would like to see this changed in future updates, either have the quest boards also feature tips on things a player might have missed or just have an NPC somewhere sharing rumors to guide towards hidden paths and characters.

Thanks for the review, so glad that this game is finally out and that it's incredible for those interested in it - still think that it would be great if there were options to adapt the difficulty, potentially not just to lower but also to increase it (Dread eventually did exactly that through a free update, not to mention Lost Crown and its wealth of accessibility settings which is the reason why I gave that a 10 personally and the ones in Celeste as others have already said, so looking forward to finally playing that when I can also considering that), so that even more could further enjoy what this game has to offer... but at the same time I think we should still celebrate its overall quality as is first and foremost!

Not sure that's the boss they're referring to in the review, but this morning I beat a boss in the Citadel and by the end of the fight I felt so bad. That must be the saddest victory I've ever had against a boss in a video game.

Getting further into the game made me realize that this might be one of the best games ever made, although what made me give it a 9 instead of 10 are 2 things:

the rosary prices can be a pain sometimes
I hate runbacks, the game is full of them and they should have been left where they belong: in the NES-era

I have not been drawn into the silksong games, maybe as it just looks too much like many other games. However I trust you all in your judgements of the games, but reading some of this it sounds like I would get the same experience as I did with Viewtiful Joe where I just got stuck and eventually gave up. I very much enjoyed it until that point but did find it frustrating to not get to see all the game.
Personally I prefer games that you give you the feeling your a noob when you start, but after a little while of playing you feel like a pro.

I hadn’t played the first hollow knight but decided to just buy it based on all the hype . I haven’t been disappointed so far , it’s not an easy game that’s for sure but I was super satisfied when I beat that 2nd boss which took me ages to master
