New Kirby amiibo Will Apparently Be Nintendo's "Most Expensive amiibo Ever"

They finally priced me out of the amiibo game

This is just insane how far we have come with the whole amiibo craze back then they were cool novelty items for collectors and causal gamers now there just kinda there in the store fronts like honestly there's nothing to be excited about anymore with these amiibo announcements especially with the more gimmick heavy ones such as these with the interchangeable base parts and pretty soon nintendo is just gonna run out of ideas to keep the amiibo hype/money train going anymore so I honestly feel like nintendo should just stop with the amiibos cause there just not as cool as they used to be and especially at the insane price point of 50 bucks separately and 100 bucks all together.

Absolutely loathsome. Nobody should buy these.

Screw that. Just get an allmiibo, which can store every amiibo released to date and still have plenty of room. I was able to find mine for like $10, and it hasn't disappointed me yet!
Nintendo probably hates the fact that you can get a $10 all-in-one amiibo, but they aren't doing anything to make official amiibo any more accessible themselves.

And they'll sit on shelves like the other $30 & $40 amiibo are since the price changes. Wouldn't surprise me if stores stopped ordering them all together at this rate.

These were, and should have remained, the cheapish novelty item you might pick up when you bought a game. Then of course the ‘Beanie Baby Effect’ happened, which of course has led Nintendo to this.

Anyone who believed that a shred of Iwata’s Nintendo still existed should hopefully see the writing on the wall. $50 for a chunk of plastic? Cut gaming content masquerading as DLC? Obscene game price hikes despite every earnings call being about how much they’re making? Gaming keycards? (admittedly ok with some)

They have become just like every other company - gaming and otherwise - squeezing everything they can out of their loyal customers and those weak-willed when it comes to shutting their wallet and saying ‘No’.

Before the direct I was hoping for a DK / Switch 2 bundle, but the DLC, the Mario Galaxy greed, and now this has turned me off completely. They can, as my brother might say, “do one.”

@Nintendomatt64 that craze only lasted for Super Smash Bros 3DS and WiiU, then everyone on here proclaimed it was dead by 2015. The only reason Nintendo keeps making them is for collectors.

The lack of basic features missing in both switch 1 and switch 2. The fact that nintendo games are now gettint in on the trend of missing features at launch which should be common sense... Idk. At 31 it's probably me and I'm turning into the cloud yelling Grandpa, but all of this in combination with how nintendo treats consumers just makes me less and less excited to buy their games.... modern gaming sucks. Take Borderlands 4 for example. Fun game but crashed 3 times in 4 hours of playing..... sucks to see one of my hobbies suffering like this...

They already priced me out of amiibo with the newest DK amiibo at $30 I'm definitely not getting the new Kirby amiibo.

@Willo567 in Australia, EB Games is usually the most expensive place to get them and they've got them for the following prices:
(Note: The $US values are what I got from using an online currency converter today where $1AU equals $0.66US. $AU values include GST.)

Metroid single figures: $30 AU ($20.92 US) each
Metroid bike: $45 AU ($29.88 US) each
Kirby Air Riders: $60 AU ($39.84 US) each
Mario Galaxy: $45 AU ($29.88 US) each

So you're paying about $10 US more across the board. Also I don't know if the prices in the article include tax so it's probably more.

@Vyacheslav333 probably a lot of people didn’t even use the voucher program. I definitely didn’t and forgot it even existed so it going away means absolutely nothing.

Excited for the game since I played the original Gamecube version a lot...But I wasn't planning on getting the amiibo, and definitely not doing it now with the price revealed. The game, DLC, and amiibo prices are just crazy this gen. Of course it isn't just Nintendo, as other companies are overpricing their games as well ($129.99 to get everything in the Borderlands 4 game??)

Nintendo's greed during this nascent Switch 2 generation is terrifying.

I was so into Amiibo for finally being affordable decent looking miniatures. It's a real shame they've crept up towards the same products I admire but will never buy. All the same I was telling myself I didn't need any more once the Smash line was done, so they're taking care of that for me. Well that, and having a bunch of butt ugly characters for the TOTK amiibo who I would never put on a shelf.

zxacutor's post shows the Amiibos being $10 more in America than Australia. So yeah I do think tariffs are part of the blame because the amiibos are made in China and last i check Trump put a 30% tariff on them that's very likely to increase

All the $40 amiibos were priced at $30 up until August before Nintendo raised US prices across the board for a bunch of stuff (Switch 1 hardware, Switch 1/2 accessories, amiibo).

$30 amiibo is still quite expensive, but the jump to $40 and now $50 is definitely tariff-related.

Not a flying chance in hell would I spend $100 on two amiibos 🤣

I'm living in Taiwan right now, and I picked up the new DK/Pauline amiibo for about the equivalent of $17 new. the jacked-up prices are for America, part of the inflationary pressure on everything.

I think Nintendo is being reasonable with the prices. The amiibo art they keep making is the highest quality, so it is actually really customer friendly that they dont charge more.

Just a reminder to everybody here, that the high prices in America are 30% tax and that you’re paying Trump and his billionaires friends tax cuts with it.

In Europe I’ve seen these kirby amiibo go for only 32 euro (35 dollar). So yeah, tax related.

They're definitely more expensive than ever. All of them. DK and Pauline was too, but if we complained about Skyward Sword Zelda amiibo, we can fasten our seatbelts from now on.

These are some expensive pieces of plastic, I have to say, but I'm sure that if I save the money that Nintendo expects me to spend for a year, I could buy a really good 3D printer with which I could make all the pieces of plastic I like for decades.

I'm just glad that they're finally doing something a little more worthwhile with amiibo (and with read/write functionality!).

I just hope that all of the pre-existing Kirby amiibo are also compatible.

I also kind of miss the game + amiibo bundles that were commonplace during the 3DS/Wii U era. Seems like a missed opportunity as such a bundle could have been a hot Christmas item (while also making the cumulative cost a little easier to bear).

Probably cheaper in Europe like 40€. Virtual Boy is only 80€ while US is $100. I'll wait for the Kirby amiibos to get cheaper though as I don't really like them. Metroid and Mario Galaxy amiibos are day one!

In Canada, strangely, they’re only $54.99 CAD, which - still expensive - does not match the US conversion prices, which would typically be marked up to around $64.99

I don’t know if this is a unique case of Nintendo being incredibly conscious of pricing themselves out, or if it is that they’ve managed to avoid Trump’s tariffs when distributing to Canada. I feel like I have to believe the latter.

Looking at the Samus + Vi-O-La amiibo, they’re $40 in both US and Canada. Price parity between countries is crazy in 2025, so it seems like US customers are directly paying directly for Donald Trump’s tariffs that Canada isn’t paying.

Aren't the Kirby amiibo basically sets of two Amiibo - the character and the vehicle? With separate data sets? That might explain the pricing.

Hate to say it but I am kinda happy because it keeps the scalpers at bay. Means I don’t have to kick my budget and can just save for release or preorder like a normal game. I am annoyed that I can’t exit amiibo though especially as I buy them for the functionality first. Oh well. Time to adjust the budget! Just gotta figure out where to put them…

I’ve preordered the two Samus amiibos from Beyond because they look BIG and pretty premium, and seem to be worth the cash (at least to me). If they show up and are not, I’ll just return ‘em!

Now this is not pricing that I like all too well. If you recall my comments yesterday, I actually liked the price of that Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 bundle, which was $35 for each game (a really good deal in my opinion). This is $50 for a single plastic figure with some game compatibility, so I don't know if I want it anymore.

I'm a big Kirby fan, but never big into Air Riders. These look kind of cool, but I rarely buy amiibos much. However, I'm sure they'll sell well enough for Nintendo and their partners, it doesn't matter if buy it of not. Amiibo fans will buy it.

Nintendo is very anti-consumer this generation, if people just don't buy amiibo and game-key cards, I bet they'll learn their lesson.

That being said I love how these look, and the technology is more complex than your typical amiibo, but $50 each is still insane. Even $30 for normal amiibo is absurd, I'm pretty much done with amiibo now.

Can we all just remember those of us who defended the price tag of 12USD because “it’s essentially reusable DLC” or “it gives gameplay value” and now they’ve increased so much in price, while the gameplay functions have gone down just as much in many cases?

Sure, these figures actually have the classic use of the Smash FP’s, but they are nearly four times the price of those, and for a racer FP versus a trainable sparring partner, it’s clearly not the same thing.

That price is crazy, but I still want them nonetheless. We haven't had new Kirby amiibos in 9 years and what these two do is awesome. It'll be worth it to me.

I was an amiibo completist for years but it got out of hand a long time ago. I probably have 120 + of the things. I became more selective when they went from 12.99 to 15.99. When they got to 25/30 I said forget it. Now this is definitely insane. Never again. (I could even throw in that I was able to get all the common Smash Bros. Ones for 2.99 clearance. ) At this point its a 400% price increase.

Well, Nintendo is vastly overestimating how much I'm willing to pay for a chunk of plastic.

I don't want to rain down on anyone's party, but aren't they a little overenthusiastic about Kirby Air Riders sales potential as a whole? I don't recall the original game getting glowing reviews and selling millions, nor is there a shortage of arcade racing games on Switch.

@RiasGremory you're not entitely wrong, but they could charge 19.99 to cover inflation. Not 50 bucks. 25 absolute max and I still wouldn't buy them. Especially from an old mid Kirby game. Inflation is not 300-400%. Tariff is not 300%

Unless maybe they release a Kirby on dragoon. That is Kirby air ride's best looking machine. That I would at least consider.

Of course Amiibo are small and while good quality they aren't peak quality.

Over all $50 is certainly pricey, but it's not outrageous. You wouldn't find anything else a lot cheaper while still having the same build quality and features.

So really it's just a question of if it's worth it for you.

amiibo are completely optional collectibles so if the price is truly an issue or you just dont want them you can make your own for literally like 20c each (hell, i had loads of fun using polymer clay to make an actual custom amiibo figure, definitely recommend that!). shame theyre raising amiibo prices across the board though, they used to be pretty well-priced even considering the quality was way lower.

i just wonder if these will somehow use new tech? like will you just scan the vehicle and it assumed the rider is whoever was originally packaged with it? the connection point looks... tech-y lmao so i wonder how this works

@15roundTKO They're still compensating for not raising the Switch 2 price. Yet. Amiibos were hit the worst, then theirs the increased price of the OG Switch, and then the price of accessories.

Nintendo literally spelled out exactly what they were doing, even had a little graph with the price increases and people still are shocked somehow lol.

At first, I thought Amiibo was a neat idea because it meant toys of some lesser-known characters that wouldn't otherwise get anything like that. But now the concept just doesn't seem special anymore.

@Thomystic themes or simply more colors. It's still just black and white and its boring and lacks personality. It's so sterile feeling. A good folder system like every other console. E ahop is still lacking an add to cart feature which means you have to buy everything separately. Every other console has a shopping cart. Even the ps3 had one..... you're profile picture has to be premade using stuff nintendo gives you. You cant upload your own pictures on it like once again evedy other console. Stuff like this is so basic yet nintendo misses it completely. It's baffling really

I used to be an avid amiibo collector, but when they started releasing so many, I couldn't keep up, and with the prices of them all rising, I have to be very picky about which amiibo I get.

Now I'll really only get amiibo for characters and/or series that I really love
