I'll preface this post with the fact that I don't like quite a bit of what Nintendo is doing right now. $70 Mario Galaxy bundle, $80 MKW, $50 Amiibo, GKC, etc. But with that said, the negativity in the Nintendo space at the moment feels, in a word, suffocating. You can't talk about anything without price points or anti-consumer practices or something being brought up, and it is quite frustrating. If Nintendo releases a novelty item with novelty item prices that would only ever be bought byat appeal to hardcore fans, that's overpriced garbage. If Nintendo listens to fans and releases a game for a smaller franchise or a spinoff, they are wasting their time and need to get on a new game in a bigger franchise.
Is anyone else noticing this? Is it just me?
Half-decent at Ace Attorney and horrible at strategy games, but I love them both.

Buddy, you are preaching to the choir here. I absolutely get why people are upset about Nintendo's business decisions as of late(I have issue with them myself) but it really is starting to blow out of proportion. The clincher for me was seeing people on this site getting worked up over the price of a flipping desk toy.

Yes and it's rather tiresome I posted about this yesterday in the switch 2 thread. This forum isn't too bad but I'd try and avoid the articles comment section.
I'm really tired of the discourse around the switch 2 atm not at the criticism of Nintendo which is fair but the constant putting down of people who are enjoying the games atm. You can't even have a conversation without it being hijacked by some nInTeNdO sUcKs goober.

@Bluelink45 The comments section can tend to attract negativity or trolls. It's typically less negative in the forums. And you may notice plenty of (or most?) commenters never use the forums.
Feel free to report, or thumbs-down, toxic, disrespectful, or unconstructive posts/comments. Last I recall, I think getting 5 thumbs down in comments will hide/remove the comment.
There are more Nintendo fans ever than before. More joined this site after the Nintendo switch reveal. Nothing new.
Positivity and negativity was always there. It was there on the switch. It was there on the Wii U. On the Wii etc.
welcome to Nintendolife.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
While I can appreciate where OP is coming from, their post itself is negative.
I'd suggest that anyone feeling aggrieved at the moment, consider that it's probably not video games that are the root cause.
Other things going on in the world, such as inflation, inequality, intentional social and political division, are taking their toll on individuals and communities. People are stressed out.
So when something trivial like the price of a video game results in a bunch of moaning and sniping, just remember that people are stressed out. Try to take a step back, look upon the petty exchange of opinions with a smile, and try to cut each other a bit of slack. Why not focus on how many ♥️ you can award when reading others comments.
We all get to have our own say when it comes to deciding whether we buy our not, and that's the only statement that really matters.
Just post what excites you (or mild annoyance) and keep it moving. So many folks feed the pit of doom. Scroll on past or ignore and talk about the fun stuff. At the end of the day we are discussing play. Nothing life threatening or serious.

I mostly hate it because its really hackneyed and hyperbolic and general annoying. It's annoying in both ways since it both is a giant bummer to the point of making discussions obnoxious but also risks undermining the actual issue because its getting obnoxious. The price raising is bad, and I feel like there are elements of Nintendo's games that will suffer from that. As a lifelong fan, it is upsetting. Honestly more upsetting because Nintendo's actual game output has often been AWESOME. At times pandering to me specifically.
But at the end of the day, I'm still gonna buy the new system and more than half of the confirmed Switch 2 first party exclusives. And at the end of the day, its a game company...raising prices. Sucks, but like...I dunno. Worst case scenario...oops, their loss, play indie games instead, it'll be fine.
It's only a hobby, and one I personally prioritize less and less given the state of the industry and what companies I used to respect (for their work) now put out.
The only reason I check in here from time to time, like for the latest Direct, is in case I'm missing something when others remind me it's happening, and because I used to care a lot about what Nintendo put out. But I rarely think about Nintendo otherwise anymore. It's just another company like Sony and Microsoft that is slowly fading into the dusty recesses of my mind.
When someone reads the above it probably sounds overly negative. At least in contrast to the "positive vibes" you'll predominantly find in here. But to me it's just a reality check. I don't get depressed reading "negative" takes. I'll enjoy games I enjoy regardless of what anyone else says, always have and always will. Enjoying NMS on release made people in real life question my sanity. Same with Starfield. I'm used to it.
I'm a Nintendo fan. Yes, some people seem to be perpetually outraged that any game costs anything.
But time after time since the Switch 2 launch I find myself saying: "oof!" in a spontaneous natural reaction to a Nintendo pricing/release/strategy decision.
Just over the past weekend we've got:
Super Mario Galaxy World + Galaxy World 2 sky high pricing = "oof!"
Donkey Kong Bananza DLC reviews say for what you get it would have been better as a free update = "oof!"
Pokemon Legends Z/A = sky high price + DLC at launch + NSO required to get it all = "oof!"
They're all adding up together to be...disheartening.
I personally don't mind the negativity that much. Heck, even I get negative about a few things here and there (cough Game Key Cards cough), but even then, I won't stop anyone from buying a Game Key Card if they desire to, I'll just debate how stupid and terrible they are. And if mine or other peoples' negativity is eventually too much for me to handle, I can easily take a break from the internet for a bit 😃.
My top 5 favorite games:
1: Pokémon Violet
2: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
3: Pokémon Shield
4: Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope
5: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
I'm happy for people to be critical. Even for a hobby you love there will be things you're not happy with, and I think people should be free to voice those things.
But then there's valid criticism and there's endless negativity. And between price discussions, game key cards, etc...it's just been relentless. It's not just a downer...it's frankly just tiresome and boring.
At the end of the day I find enjoyment in discussing things I enjoy with other people who enjoy those things. I don't expect everyone to enjoy the same things as me...but when negativity is seemingly outweighing positivity...yeah I just cba.
@Buizel as a person who’s likely defined as being endlessly negative on here. I think the problem with simply giving valid criticism and leaving it there leads to yes I don’t agree with such and such but keep it moving and make the purchase. Where as the constant negativity is relentlessly reminding myself how often this company has screwed me and or is trying to screw me. Maybe it’s like someone trying to finally leave a marriage after 40 years. To the outsider it would make sense to rationally list your opinions and walk away. To the person doing the walking part of the ranting and raving is to get the to finally make the step and pass the point of no return. I slept on Zelda bedsheets and woke up to Mario wallpaper in my bedroom. It’s harder for some people to leave than others.
I don't get it personally, they're a toy company selling you toys. It's not like the price of Super Mario Galaxy 2 remake, the texture resolution of a third party port or the new Mario Kart being an 8.6 rather than an 9.2 is the end of the world. You're not being screwed over or scammed because Virtual Boy on NSO exists. You don't have to buy it if you don't like it. You are not a victim and you are not special for speaking out against them
I repeat, they're a toy company. You're doing the equivalent of staging a protest over yoyos being too expensive or not having the same quality of plastic they used to. Well done
But this is the age we live in. The phrase of our age is "everyone is entitled to an opinion", it's the mantra. But almost always what people actually mean is "my beliefs are fragile, don't touch them". What people want is validation for their beliefs. They don't want a discussion, they either want people to give them a gold star or they want to be a victim
It's common in politics these days. There are two sides. Sure somewhere in there there are people with actual beliefs and ideas, people who actually want outcomes or to fix problems. But mostly it just rage baiting and persecution hunting. And that has bled into all online discussion, but especially gaming circles where so many are just terminally online fragile balls of rage and whine
@sixrings You make a good point. The only reason I care enough to even leave negative-ish remarks is precisely because of how much Nintendo has been a part of my life, from childhood and all throughout adulthood. I have all the handhelds and so many precious memories. When Nintendo changes this much it’s more than just a simple “ah well time to move on”. It’s a little bit more emotional than that. I wish things were different but I can’t pretend anymore.
I mean there are plenty valid criticisms but it’s really just starting to feel like people taking their frustrations out on others simply for still expressing interest. Which really isn’t going to make people agree with you it’s just gonna make them hate you instead
